A question that I hope will not turn ugly as I truly don’t mean it to be. If you are a conservative atheist and a member of the Republican Party how do you reconcile that the party has been taken over by the Religious Right? The Republican Party and the Democratic Party for that matter, when I was growing up, was about economic philosophical differences but America was put first. You could have a Liberal Republican on social issues and be an Economic conservative on the economy. The “prime the pump” model verses the more Adam Smith model of letting the “invisible hand” dictate the economy. Now I find no social liberals in the party and there seems to be a religious litmus test along with dogmatic tribalism where you must be “pure” in order to be part of the party. How do you overcome this paradox and remain in the Republican Party? I’m asking for understanding not to start an argument.
The way to overcome the paradox IMO is to become a libertarian.
Wow...you read my mind. I would ask Trumpbots around me in this rural TN town but they just stand there mouth-breathing and blinking.
The first year we lived here in Crossville, I went into a women's clothing store and the clerk came up to me to see if I needed any help.....she started up a conversation about where was I from, etc....and then went on to say that she and her husband moved here from Washington - that they just had to get away from "all those ridiculous "liberals" with their absurd ideas".... I looked at her and said "gee - that's funny. We moved here from S.C. to get away from all those narrow minded conservatives with all their absurd ideas"....and walked out of the store. I hope she doesn't work on commission.....
We always hope that somewhere in the future that a man as smart as Ben Franklin comes along and straightens out the mess the last several leaders have made of the economy. Chances that it there is such a person they will never step up to the job because of the public and private ridicule. If a Thomas Jefferson type would be elected the same thing would happen even though that they would have a strong personality ultimate the press Congress and the people would drive them to quit. We need and the party doesn't matter is an Abe Lincoln type to unify everyone.
Do you know Mark Warner? Not to say he's the man. But maybe. You can't tell until the fit hits the shan.
Really the last several leaders! I take you are including Obama in that mix when you have republicans fighting tooth and nail to make him fail!
Your premise is incorrect. The Republican Party has not been taken over by the "Religious Right", whatever that is. Many religious people support the Republican Party because the political alternative, the Democrats, seem to be hostile to both Christianity and Judaism.
From your anti liberal comments, it is clear that the truth is irrelevant to you. The Democrats may be bought and paid for by their corporate base but they are not against Christianity or Judaism. In fact, most elected officials claim to be theists and members of some church. How about posting evidence to back up your assertions?
In Trump we trust!
...That is fucking terrifying.
@memorylikeasieve lol You don't love your president?
