One of my favorite quotes, “the fact that a believer is happier than a skeptic is no more to point the I drunken man is happier than a sober one” George Bernard Shaw
I suppose this is true if you don’t value happiness. Without context it’s to discern meaning.
The implication is that only a drunken type person, ignorant and mentally deficient would believe in a higher power. Shaw and others might wallow in that thought, but it is not true. Many of the most intelligent people throughout history have been deeply religious. Among them are nearly all of the founders of modern physics.
To dehumanize and denigrate your opponents in a debate does not seem a very fruitful tactic for persuasion.
Come to think of it, why is there a debate at all? I thought the burden of proof was all on the theists.
I dig the quote also. I had to stop drinking because hangovers were so bad that I had to resume my drinking.
Or the quote about religion..
"Well religion brings/comforts many people"..
"So does heroin"
David Silverman
