Other than ripping off others, and the power of suggestion/positive thinking for yourself when you try a remedy that may or may not work, it’s nearly impossible to really deploy the principle on yourself. The whole reason a placebo works is because the person accepting it as a remedy thinks there’s something more to it. I suppose you could pay a quack doctor or a fortune teller to tell you what you want to hear but it’s still a poor replacement for substantial action and remedies that are known to actually do something.

If you use the placebo effect isn't that to your advantage already? Or am I missing something.

Hi, Quazi,

By expecting the best and imagining yourself as being healthy.

By the way, you earn website points, and help other members get to know you better, when you write an informational profile that includes your hobbies and interests, and answer all the profile questions, since that's the first place many people look when they see a new member.

Also, the website uses your profile to find member matches, so the more details you include, the better the match.

Then you make comments and write your own posts to earn more points and privileges; for instance, at level two you can private email people. You get different perks with each level, and when you reach level eight you get an agnostic T-shirt.

To find members near you, click on the "Meet" button at the top of the page, then on "Members," and enter your preferred search parameters.
Or click on the "About" button at the top of the page to find links to FAQ or the website tutorial.

It must have something to do with...believing that it will help or work!

I can often minimize or entirely eliminate sickness (cold and flu) when I feel the first symptoms. I learned to do it in high school when I was feeling very ill (feverish, run down, etc.), but I knew I couldn't get a ride home, so I just kept repeating to myself, "I'm not getting sick, I'm not getting sick" — and I was fine the rest of the day after that, but got extremely I'll the next day. I've tried with pain, which I've heard others say is effective for them, but I've had only minor success in alleviating anything "sharp" or otherwise intense (e.g., toothache or bad headache).

Consider cannabis or Scotch... either works well. I prefer... toss up, locally Dewars.

Excellent suggestions but hardly placebos. That pairing does everything promised and more, with a swiftness.

I can deliberately fake pray to a nonexistent god and get the same results as someone praying for real to their awesome god. That's sort of a backwards placebo, but I see no advantages
