Sitting here at my cousins funeral thinking about how much I don’t want this circus when my time comes. Anybody got some good ideas for no religious memorial services? And how do I make sure the family doesn’t try to slip in some foolishness?
Ain't going...but if something un-fore seen comes up, somebody should throw me in a barditch, kick some dirt over me, and tell god I died. It's welcome to whatevers left.
There will be no funeral, memorial service, or celebration of life to mark my death. I will be cremated. I am to be cremated. MY ashes are to be taken to Kansas where she and my two daughters will scatter my ashes on Lucas Point on '"Wilson Lake.As they are scattering the ashes, the melody, Ashoken Farewell" is to be played on an electronic device. That is exactly the way I want it to be.
I’m going to have some ashes spread over wher my children are buried. As for the rest I want a Coast Guard helicopter to spread them over the Gulf Of Mexico. I would get a kick if some of the ashes get caught in the rotor wash and hit the crewman. I would like to see that. ?
I do secular, atheist, pagan, and non-Christian spiritual funerals (and weddings!). I'm sure there are others who also those services.
You need to get your final requests on lock-down and do funeral pre-planning and arranging. Write it all down...what you want...what's allowed to be said....etc. and make sure that trusted people will follow what you requested. You can also make it part of your will...that if someone goes against your wishes, they automatically forfeit anything you left them. Responsible adults also pre-pay for their funeral arrangements or have a "whole life" insurance policy to cover the costs of the pre-planned funeral.
Have a big party with food and a bar....everyone tells a good story about fun times we had. Drive carefully on the way home! That's about it.
@Stevil RIGHT! My friend Tim was very specific about his ''memorial." No church...just a big party where the bar bill exceeded the food bill. Lots of fun...laughs...NO WEEPING ALLOWED! We did it--best one ever!
I think I would at least come up with a playlist otherwise the wakes on 'The Wire' were amazing.
Some of my friends...had a ‘celebration of life party!’ But, they planned ahead and their wishes were honored! But, do leave ‘space’ for your loved ones to honor you, their way!
I've told my kids to do what they want to do. I'm not really going to be there and I don't really care. They should do what makes them happy or gives them comfort.
Fair point
