Seems most people live their lives without much thought, BUT some have purposely embraced a philosophy to guide their lives. I’m curious if you have a philosophy … and how do you use it to stay on track?

The tattoo across my back says:

Sá sem lifir án aga deyr án heiðurs

(He who lives without discipline, dies without honor)

Keeps me focused on the important stuff.

Learning the hard way is a waste of time.

More of a memory. I used to hike and climb a lot, often alone, and long drives we're involved.
After a particularly harrowing weekend and a long drive home and crawling into bed, and sleeping like the dead, I woke up totally shocked at being alive the next morning, much less reasonably functional and healthy. And really hungry.
If I could maintain that degree of gratitude for basic existance, it'd be a good place to start every day.

I live serendipitously. The only time I'm on a track is when l cross it.

I borrow from whatever works / helps. I have stoic leanings; I'm a philosophical naturalist; a rationalist / empiricist; there's a dash of nihilism in there (the positive kind that Nietzsche actually taught, not the hand-wringing "what's the point" whiny kind).

I've evolved. I used to be an idealist, a romantic, a Christian presuppositionalist, etc. so it's been quite a journey.

only recently i have stopped worrying about what I’m doing here and what i should be doing. my philosophies are borrowed from the Dali Lama who said your reason to be here is to be happy and serve others.....somewhat like the golden rule....do unto others, etc. it is serving me well. i am happy and my anxiety has lessened.

Learn, learn learn... When you get tired, learn some more

Harm none, unless you are protecting yourself. family, or friends; be compassionate; think before you speak, especially if angry; try to be kind; laugh and smile as often as possible; never drink cheap wine or weak coffee.

Do no harm, be kind to others (unless we're in traffic and then all bets are off), leave the world a better place than I found it, and do things that will make the kids proud, and if you must do something the kids would not be proud of make sure they will never find out.
