Curious to know how many of you believe Jesus, (the one from the bible, not some Hispanic dude), actually existed?
Horus predates Heyzues (Jesus there was no "J" in ancient Hebrew) Zues was the Roman god at the time & Horus through out Egypt. The "Bible" was written over one hundred years after his so called existence. There is no records of Jesus anywhere in the first centuary ad.The Romans,Egyptians kept excellent records. No records or artifacts were found in the "Holy Land" either.
Maybe an amalgamation of several real people. One can imagine something happening to the psyche of a lot of Jews after the destruction of the temple in Judea. Jesus probably evolved as an answer to the question of why god would allow such a thing to happen. Who knows?
What an odd question to ask on a non-believer, non-religious website. If our answer is affirmative, what the fuck are we doing here?
I think there's a possibility that Jesus may have been a composite of several people with a lot of hyperbolic fiction thrown in.
I'm an atheist who would not be surprised if the character is based on real people. I don't believe he is who the bible says he is.
@maturin1919 Calm down? How rude and condescending.
@maturin1919 What an ignorant prick! I guess your mother raised you that way?
No smoke without fire but a fucking shit load of smoke and a tiny flame.
I'm sure there was somebody named Joshua in the Middle East about that time. The Jesus in the bible? I'm sure that was mostly made up.
The best take down of Islam I saw was by a Christian who ordered everything chronologically, and compared the commands he gave to the historical life events. Unlike Jesus we know a little about Mohammed and can demonstrate the self serving nature of his revelations doing this.
With the story of Jesus we have the books arranged so you "assume" Paul means everything in the gospels, even though he does not use these actions as demonstrations of what to do or not, he talks about everything he knows from personal revelation. When you look at how the story grows and that there is really nothing about Jesus as a young man, his education, etc that is accepted as canon, it sure feels like a manufactured guy to me.
He apparently is mentioned in other holy books. To the Jews he is a failed messiah since he was unable to fulfilled the prophecies. The is little historical proof of his existence although some personalities in the new testament have appeared the the written historical records.
That said, I suspect that IF he did exist, he was a political shit stirrer of the time. A zealot and challenger of the jewish doctrine of the time. A delusional felon that was executed for challenging both the mainstream religion and political power of the time.
I am sure a man existed who walked around telling some lovely stories. He wasn't the sun of god. Just a bloke in sandals. There is too much circumstantial evidence (not factual historical I know) for him not to. Bart Ephraims book is the highest authority on this and he does.
