a book of fiction, myth, and legands with lies inbetween
There's an excellent book by Resa Aslan called Zealot: The Life and Times of Jesus of Nazareth, in which he describes Jesus as a socio-political figure, around whom a movement was created, but not necessarily based on his teachings. In essence, someone seeking to disrupt the status quo, largely surrounded by marginally literate figures, who maintained an oral tradition until they eventually made their way to someone capable of writing down gists of conversations and events, which maybe did or did not happen. According to Aslan, Peter was roundly despised as an excessively hostile, war-mongering zealot who happened to have the most available resources, so could churn out the greatest volume of documents from which the bible could be pieced together. Theoretically, you could have 10 apostles saying Jesus' big message was, "Don't be a douche", but have that message shouted down, as the movement is diverted down a completely different path. To the victor go the spoils.
This is why the Church tends to tell people to stay faithful, and to shun those who question things. (Literally, here in Mobile, AL, I saw a billboard in front of a church that said, 'Keep your faith - reject science and keep only the Word'. It's a simple means of control.
Yes, indeed. It’s sad folks can’t think for themselves.
The Oldest "Bible" Is In The London Museum. It"s 1000 500 Old. There is No Mention Of The "Resarection' There Is Over 4,000 "Differences" In The King James "_Version" He Had The Stoning Added.Let Him With No Sin Cast The First Stone & Other Shit !
Found It!
Even more than just that. They didn't even consult the Codex Vaticans, the bible pieced together at the Council of Nicea for their translations. Four different translators collaborated using six different sources, most of which were in older forms of English or common Latin and came up with a text that is drastically changed from the Codex. The Codex is a real treasure, historically, and can be viewed upon appointment by those who have been invited to the Vatican Library to study. It's stunning that such was available, although politically it might have been a bit awkward seeing as Henry VIII just pissed off everyone in Rome. Anyway, there was a source that has fourth century as close to original texts as we can get, and they didn't even try to use that. Academically, that is a cardinal sin, if you pardon the pun.
Even a child would think this is insanity or at best silly nonsense... Yet it is routinely force fed to children around the world by adults that should know better.
Unfortunately, they really don't know better.
In light of what’s going on on our south boarders it’s a small issue.. however, I totally agree. But hold on to the hope that as these children mature they will have avenues like this site to help them see the FACTS!
It’s a manufactured religion. That is all. Very much like Mormonism.
They're ALL manufactured, not just christianity.
@KKGator
I disagree. Hinduism and Judaism both grew out of the cultures they come from. Revealed religions, yes. Native religions, no.
@Gatovicolo Still manufactured. ALL religions are made-up nonsense, regardless of their origins.
@KKGator
Made up non-sense? I don’t think so. Native religions, while antiquated thinking, have cultural significance. Revealed religions are more problematic.
@Gatovicolo Cultural nonsense is every bit as bad as religious nonsense. Both are used to justify bad behavior.
@KKGator
Sometimes. Sometimes it’s just part of who we are as a culture.
Agreed, Leah. Not to mention the "extras" thrown in by zealous editors like the Johnannine Comma (1 John 5: 7-8).
