In where you live (whether in your country or in your family), do Atheists/Agnostics get treated badly, persecuted or kicked out of the house? What was your family's reaction when you told them you are an Atheist/Agnostic

Thanks guys for your reply. For me being from Saudi Arabia, Atheism can be punished by execution

I'm more out as bi than I am about being atheist. That probably says something. My immediate family knows about both, and they don't give me a hard time about it. I'm not especially vocal about either, granted.

There are six states in which atheists are not allowed to run for public office, so yeah, American atheists are persecuted.

In the area where I live Atheists are regarded like monsters. My family does not agree with me but have not disowned me either. My husbands family are quite harsh though.

Boulder, CO is very open. It is more unusual to run into someone with a strong religious belief system

My 5 year plan is to be in Colorado

Wisconsin, things seem fine here. I think my parents always knew i didn't really believe in anything

Yes, being ostracized or tossed out of the family home are VERY common where I live. I cannot imagine tossing your own minor children onto the street over religion. My parents worked through a wuasi devonversion at the same time that I did, so telling them did nit result in many waves, really, though my mom has mentioned wishing I still believed in a higher power of SOME sort.
