I live in the San Francisco Metropolitan area and I would hazard a guess that we have a large community of atheists and a wide range of religious beliefs so I have never given it much thought. There is still the overwhelming pervasive assumption coming from Christians that everyone around them is a Christian. I work in a hospital and ask or confirm virtually everyone I see what religious belief they hold and while they answer predominantly Christian I do get other answers. When someone pauses or hesitates even for a moment I tell them I will put whatever you say, you can decline or say none. I often get a smile then and often get none as the answer. Given that so many people I work with are overtly religious and very judgmental I confess I do not wear it on my sleeve but will tell them if asked.

I don't. I find debate on the topics on this site interesting, but it doesn't even occur to me to seek out like-minded people locally. Why would I? I don't expect I would have anything in common with someone else simply because we both don't believe in god.
