I'm evidently on a food kick today. Can you name one food you love which makes most others turn up their noses? I grew up eating mutton pies made by the Taylor Meat Pie Company in New Jersey. The last time I had one, I tried sharing it with my loved ones, only to find that mutton pie is evidently an acquired taste. Or perhaps the play 'Sweeney Todd" ruined meat pies for a lot of people.

Black licorice. Almost everyone I know hates it. Oh well, more for me! ?

I love it!

5

Black licorice, eggplant, brussel sprouts, habaneros, blue cheese, deep fried sardines

I like 1/2 that list. 😉

Grilled SPAM sandwich

SPAM.Substitute Pork And Meat.

What's wrong with spwm? I still eat it, albeit turkey spam.

@kltuckmn It is certainly a food some mock or turn their noses up at. I remember my mom grilling it with maple syrup, the real stuff mind you, none of that "table syrup" junk.

Mexican mole sauce. Its sort of like a thick smoky, gravy, BBQ sauce with coco in it. I love it on chicken and rice.

Absolutely love that sauce!!! You try the green and red ones? Love the way my aunt makes the brown one with chicken

@JerseyJam I've never tried the green or red, but I would love to try them.

Mole is amazing. The perfect sauce for Turkey.

@Donovanci I'll have to try that.

There's a restaurant that does it near me, though they make it a little too sweet. Besides that, they see the brown one premade in like the Goya section. Just add some shredded chicken

@JerseyJam I've got a Hispanic grocery store in my neighborhood, but I've only been in there once or twice. I keep meaning to go check them out for real, but I just haven't gotten around to it yet. One of my coworker's is from Puerto Rico and he took me in there once to get some things for a BBQ we were going to, so I didn't have a lot of time to look around.

Also, there re lots of Mexican restaurants near me, but only one so far has a mole sauce.
What gives?

I absolutely love artichokes, yet, sadly, not everyone knows about them, or is mistaken in thinking that they are just an ornamental thistle! Yummm... I also love Brussels sprouts, and I find a lot of people turn up their noses for this yummy veg. Improperly cooked they aren't very good, but cooked with love (and just the right seasonings or whatever), they are wonderful!

I love fresh - can't stand cooked, canned, frozen.

Have heard a lot of people say they would NEVER eat haggis, but I love it! They somehow think the casing is different from other sausages. Also like cilantro - can't make salsa or banh mi without it!

I love haggis. ?

Haggis is not sausage! It's sheep's entrails malt & barley,cooked in a sheep's stomach!

@Storybook Often! ?

@Storybook Black & White pudding Blood.

About 3 weeks ago, I had a mutton tamale at the flea market. I also had my first "picadilly" (shaved ice, hot pickle juice, blueberry and fruit punch flavoring). All in all it was a good day. I live on the Navajo Rez and this is typical fair and flea market food.

I like anchovies and most organ meat. I only get either when I dine alone.

In a small restaurant yesterday, I ordered grilled brussel sprouts as a small plate to share. The whole place smelled of it and I got a few sideways looks. Tasted good though! Then they cooked the rest of the meals which covered up the smell.

3

anchovies, now I'm craving them. Thanks jerk

Oh yes! Good, pickled anchovies especially.

Pickled onions too.

@DaveMania OMG I had pickled mustard eggs for the first time this year, great stuff but pricey. Pickled garlic is good too and much cheaper.

LOL, maybe my taste buds keep me single more than anything???

Chocolate chip cookies and beer.

2

Creamed chip beef. Mom usually made it with ground beef. I don't make it because most of it would get thrown out. It makes too much for one person and I don't think I'd want to try leftovers. I still make liver and onions every couple years.

2

Jellied roast beef, head cheese, liverwurst, liver and onions.

I used to go to this Italian deli that made a tongue sub sandwich. It was quite yummy.

Monthong durian. Mmmmmmm!

@Maiasaura Yes..it smells like moldy gym socks.
In my case, I tried some durian on a dare, and once I tasted it, I was hooked. That wasn't good since it's comparatively expensive, and only available for about seven weeks a year, but I always wanted to eat it.

When I lived in Nakhon province (2011-2014) durian is grown there, and was available year around for less than half the amount it is sold in other provinces.

@Maiasaura I usually bought monthong durian for dinner and ate it on the balcony, watching the sunset over the city..totally blissed out, almost catatonic with pleasure.
No problem if there was a breath issue, but for all I know there isn't any.

2

Lengua. On the regular.

2

somebody's gonna say durian fruit

That would be me. I put down monthong durian..one of the reasons I couldn't leave Thailand before now.

@birdingnut yes.. i was meaning you! lol

@SeeCanU Sadly, since I got intestinal cancer, my body has refused to let me eat it.

The same substance that makes that bad smell must irritate the stomach lining or something because suddenly the odor sickened me instead of attracting me as before, and when I tried only one durian section, my cancer symptoms doubled.
I hastily abandoned it for the moment.

But as I keep taking cannabis oil and getting better, many severe food allergies I've had for decades have vanished. I read online that cannabis also cures food allergies, and basically makes your entire body function properly.

@birdingnut well i sure hope you get better.

Sushi - Folks either love it or hate it.
Even an average Sushi lover may balk at Eel, Squid, Octopus, Sea Urchin...

scurry Level 9 June 25, 2018

I'll try any of it once, but then again, I like sushi.

1

I had fried pig intestine in Manila. I don’t know that you’d say I love it, though.

1

Mary's kitchen (?) corned beef hash in a can with bread and a large glass of milk. Totally unhealthy I know but I have it Evey six months or so to feed my "hash" addiction. ?

1

Two or three pats of butter stirred into sorghum mollases into which pieces of toast are dipped. Beats the heck out of plain old honey.

1

I love this thing called BBQ slaw. The best is from a local bbq joint...they now sell it in the grocery store, so I can get it right here, though I gladly drove over there on a regular basis to get my fix.

1

Menudo.

@OroLee Im originally from El Paso. Lots of menudo there. Grew up with it. Hated as a kid though. Love it as adult.

Love the broth, could never get around to the chewiness of the tripe lol
