Here's my solution to the U.S. immigration issue, I'd appreciate your comments and if you have access to any legislators please take it up with them.
Pick a date, say by January 1st 2021. Any illegals must turn themselves in by that date. When they do, they will have to pay back taxes and a fine, and they can stay. Perhaps there is a payment plan, don't follow the plan or don't pay the taxes and fine and you get deported. If you don't turn yourself in by that date and you get arrested there is no hearing, it's automatic deportation. If you have children that are US citizens you can take them with you or you can leave them your choice. There are far too many illegal immigrants and something needs to be done. I understand the argument about rewarding people for illegal activity but unfortunately because we weren't adequate gatekeepers we allowed the problem to occur. That doesn't mean we can't fix it. They aren't being rewarded, they have to pay back taxes and a fine. This will clean up the large back log of immigration cases. One problem for instance will be countries like Cuba who won't take their people back, I don't have a solution to where you send those people or how you accomplish it. Creating an immigration prison just means we have to pay to house them and feed them and clothe them.

The Federal Budget deficit, our horrible health care system, student loan debt crises, crumbling infrastructure and underfunded public schools are the major problems our country faces. Immigration doesn't even crack the Top 5.

How much do undocumented immigrants pay in taxes? An estimated $11.64 billion in 2016.
How much do we spend deporting them? $3.2 billion that same year. So we take their money, and then kick them out.
They STILL provide net value to this country, even after we have spent the money to deport them. Shame on us.

It drives me crazy that people don't think immigrants pay taxes.
Immigrants to the U.S. already pay billions of dollars in income and other taxes. Undocumented immigrants, because they do not qualify for many assistance programs, actually end up contributing more to the economy, so the taxes they pay are a net gain.
You say, "there are far too many illegal immigrants." However, reducing our current immigration levels would have devastating consequences for the economic system. Our agricultural sector is suffering with fruits and vegetables rotting in fields and orchards because there is no one to pick them. Americans do not want these jobs. Ditto for the meatpacking industry. Immigrants are also overrepresented in landscaping, construction, domestic labor. Realistically there is no way to fill these jobs without immigrants. We are teetering on the verge of an economic crisis by excluding them.
Here's another thought. The presence of immigrants in a community reduces the crime rate. The more immigrants move into a community, the more the crime rate goes down. This is fact. We want to reduce crime, right? Let's consider the impact of foreign-born individuals on crime, but from an honest and informed perspective.
Let's look at the military. A report from 2010 noted that immigrants have a proud tradition of serving in the U.S. military. The Department of Defense considers them such important assets that it supports the DREAM act in order to ensure adequate personnel numbers. Immigrants tend to enlist at higher rates than native-born Americans. They also have lower disciplinary rates.
Immigrants serve in all branches of the armed forces. As of 2008, nearly 11% of individuals serving in the Armed Forces were of Hispanic origin. [americasvoice.org]
Immigrant participation is so critical to maintaining personnel numbers that the DOD since 2014 has allowed undocumented immigrants to serve. So we have your so-called "illegals" who are willing to fight and die for this country, and they don't even get citizenship in return. [usatoday.com]
You may want to educate yourself about the finer points of the immigration issue before making uninformed comments.

And you may want to read my solution before you blindly determine that it's ok to enter this country illegally. I guess you missed the point about them getting to stay. Of course that would get in the way of your rant. If you believe that sneaking into the country entitles you to something, that's your prerogative. I notice that you too have no solution, you apparently would like to keep the status quo. Honest, potentially having more to contribute individuals following the process and waiting through the red tape to enter the country legally aren't as important to you apparently. Meanwhile, although i know you didnt read what I wrote, find where I said that illegal immigrants do not supply an important work force and do not aid the economy. Show me. What about a guy who rapes women but is a hellova grape picker? Or is it only some laws you don't care got broken in the process?

Not at all. If they are illegal, they get to follow the rules and stay. If they don't want to follow the rules and know they are illegal, what due process do they want? If they are not illegal what is the issue?

Well if they've been paying taxes and social security then they won't have much or anything to pay back other than the fine. If they stay they get their social security like everyone else. If they leave I guess it was a chance they took. Are they paying taxes for the police, fire,streets etc. they use like the rest of us? Do all underpaid workers get reimbursed by their employers or just the illegal ones?
@lerlo They already pay billions in employment taxes. See my comment above. Not sure why you assume they do not. And if they are undocumented (I do not use the term "illegal" because there is no such thing as an illegal human), they do not recoup their social security payments. So their payments are a net PLUS for the economy.

@lerlo In order to file for a federal tax return, undocumented immigrants need to apply for an Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN) from the Internal Revenue Service.
The IRS issues these numbers to individuals who must file taxes, but don't possess or aren't eligible for a Social Security number. ITINs are issued to people regardless of their immigration status. An ITIN doesn't give a person legal work authorization and doesn't provide eligibility for Social Security benefits, according to the IRS website.

@lerlo These laws were created specifically to exclude certain racial groups. See "Chinese Exclusion Act", the first in a shameful legacy of laws that were put in place to keep out those who competed with white people for jobs. Just because these laws are in place does not mean they are fair.

@smallblueflowers Not sure where you're coming up with "these laws." There are procedures for people who want to enter this country, to be followed by ALL. How would you feel if you were one that followed all the rules and procedures but had to wait, while others tunneled in and believe that somehow that makes them "entitled?" This is the best example of illegal entry into the country that I have found: You leave for work in the morning and lock your house. When you return, someone had broken into your house, cleaned the house from top to bottom, made dinner and cut the lawn. As you're headed to the phone to call the police for the beak-in, the person who broke into your house says, look at all the things I did for you." Sorry, but they still broke into your house. As did the people who entered the country illegally. There is no "but I'm a good worker" defense. My solution allows these people to say anyway if they pay for the services and infrastructure like all the rest of the inhabitants. There is also no "numerous benefits to society" defense to not paying taxes.

@lerlo Your analogy has nothing to do with the reality of applying for immigrant status. It takes many years to go through the process, and even those applying for asylum don't have an easy time of it. In addition, the terrible situations in countries such as Guatemala and El Salvador that create so many refugees are a direct consequence of U. S. policies.
Think gangs that actually formed in the U. S. but then returned to their home countries to wreak havoc. Think decades of American corporations using the resources, land and labor of Central American countries only to create devastating poverty in those countries, while reaping enormous profits.
You make the situation out to be very simple with your silly analogy. It is a very complex issues with many layers. Educate yourself before commenting on something that you are obviously ignorant about.
@smallblueflowers @lerlo poster must be very interested on all the "rich americans" that do not pay taxes (don't think so being a trump minion) but is very concerned with the very "poor" paying their share of taxes! All of them ilegal or not. Taxing the very poor zealot kind of a guy.
