I think I'd have made a great witch!

There are two villages near me which, in surprisingly recent history only just beyond living memory, were known as witch villages. Both had and, apparently, will always have a powerful village witch, and one was known right into the early 20th Century as a place where witches gathered - with many of them said to have flown there on various objects, including in several cases on sections of farmyard fencing.

The Biblical verse was changed. 'Thou shalt not suffer a witch to survive'. The verses before and after it deal with adulterers (sp). The Bible doesn't jump from one topic to another and then back again -- not for a single verse. What do you want to bet that witch was changed to adulterers. and that the end of the sentence was 'amongst you'. And the church used it to slaughter anyone who disagreed with them.
