Actually "missing links" are very common. Any animal like a seal or walrus, that lives on land and in water could be considered a link. Life started in the Ocean and then adapted to land.
I think they’re talking about evolutionary links.

missing link. A supposed animal midway in evolution between apes and humans. The term is based on a misunderstanding about the theory of evolution, which does not state that humans are descended from apes, but rather maintains that both humans and apes descended from a common ancestor.
@Gatovicolo Gorillas and chimp are our cousins, about 99%of their DNA matches ours. What purpose would a "link" serve?
