I hope not but at 79 i would oppose nazie's everytime and the wealthy are just driving people to some kind of action. They are not going to let this country be ruled by a minority of wealthy.

One of my perspectives/scenarios follows: That Trump is a puppet of the Deep State as much as Hillary, and that a great deal of what Trump does is scripted for him by agencies outside the White House. How likely is it for Putin to put Trump in office without the blessings of Deep State power brokers? Consider the Stuxnet virus sabotage of the Iranian uranium centrifuges. That may have set the stage for the odd bonding of Israel, Germany, Russia and the US intelligence. Resources from all those countries seem to have been needed to achieve the Stuxnet virus. I would classify that effort as being generated by the Deep State, and only acceded to by the president. Per George Will's assessment of Trumps intelligence, Trump couldn't possibly be originating most of what he does. I'm inclined to believe his White House advisors only relay dictation from their own connections (or it could all be as advertised, and that's a horrible thought too). I wouldn't put it past the Deep State to orchestrate mass destruction if they see that as desirable, as might have happened with 9/11.

Thank you everybody for your input. I think what is currently escalating is what the military refers to as "low intensity conflict." That is, something short of full blown war. The rhetoric is heated and each side demonizes the other to its own standards (varying depending on subgroup). Certain occurrences are seen as skirmishes whether acts of violence ascribed to either side, or claims of over-the-top rhetoric, or acts of incivility.

Look to history for examples of how the state reacts. Water cannons are being called out on ICE protesters. Legislation has been proposed to criminalize peaceful protest including severe penalties for even being at a gathering where any acts of violence or destruction takes place. This ignores the regular tactic of planting agent provacatuers to shape perceptions of a given protest.

I feel the sad reality of the side that claims to love America clearly hates over half the population. The thin veneer of civility is quite apparent at times and it seems that it would not take much to strip it away, considering the level of friction that seems to be increasing.

Well taking into consideration that ameriKKKan fingers been in many civil wars around the world... what goes around, comes around. I will like to see how many of the 16,000 that write-in voted in the last elections for a dead zoo gorilla for president... will stand up and fight. Just saying among the many "not for hillary" voters, "burnie zombies" included.

No, I don't think so by any means. Such a conflict is triggered out of desperation when there are no jobs (not the case), and/or the few lucky ones with still an income cannot use their money because there is nothing to buy (last time I went to Walmart, shelf's were fine). A rise to violence is a serious extreme condition when, for instance, people is starving to death (French Revolution comes to mind), not when people is unhappy because they don't like the person currently sitting at the oval office. For all that may not like this answer, I believe the question is "Do you think..."...there you go.

The same people that voted for Trump because he was going to "Make America Great Again" will never stand up and fight. They have always blamed all their troubles on something or someone else. They collect massive amounts of weaponry because they are fearful of everything. They were cowards in 2016 and they will be cowards after Muellers report. Some may be goaded into violence but most will just sit in front of their computers and snivel.

The thought has crossed my mind. Possibly if we went on massive strikes. I have never felt so morally divided. It is scary.

I voted for Trump (Actually, I voted "not Hillary" ). Regardless. I believe in the Constitution and the rule of law. If President Trump is impeached, so be it. But, then you've got President Pence. I don't think we will see a Civil War like the last one. Possibly pockets of drawn out violence. But nothing nation-wide. The majority of Americans (and I include myself in this group) are too soft for carrying on prolonged warfare. It's a VERY UNPLEASANT activity.

Unfortunately in the US with all those guns, chaos will take over, however I sincerely hope that it will not come to that.

I don't think we're quite to that point. There are too many variables involved to make a prediction. I'm not saying it won't come to that. Who knows at this point? I do think that if Trump's supporters resorted to violence if he's removed, it will be short-lived.
