The beach is my go to place to center myself. It's not the beach with browning bodies everywhere, traffic, music blaring under each umbrella and frozen drink bars. ...it's the primitive beach areas with unmanicured sand, birds, occasionally families making sand castles, fishing and bobbing with the waves. Sands dunes doing there natural thing of being a protective eco system. Sea turtle sightings markING the spots where female turtles return year after year to lay eggs.
North Padre Island National Seashore...

I don't really need any particular place. If it's peaceful then it will do. I've so much as just sat in certain portions of museums and it does it for me. Sitting on a porch with a nice breeze and quiet does it too.

I never get there often enough, but Sunset Beach, NC. Since we came from the ocean, it makes sense why so many of us are easily drawn back.

I don’t have a place but I’m looking. I’m interested in reading other comments to get ideas.

I like the National Seashore preserve areas too. The Outer Banks of North Carolina is where I like to go.

Those photos are beautiful!

@Ellatynemouth It's a beautiful place

Camped in the Outer Banks, it rained that night, my tent was flooded so I pulled it on an incline and slept on the dry portion. Imperfections and challenges don't spoil my trips . Loved the extra long ferry ride and making a fire on the beach.

Offshore. Just being there is good enough. The fish are a bonus.

The woods have always been my escape to solitude. Ironically, I found my current favorite wilderness spot by getting lost on a hike two years ago. It's a lone campsite along the North Country Trail, near a small lake in western Michigan. Loons always nest there; their night time wails signify Up North for me. I hike all day, take a swim in the lake, enjoy a beer and dinner, then retreat to my tent.

Sounds like perfection, I'm intrigued by the location

@Shazbott68 I’ll never tell. I can hike all day and see 1 or 2 people.

I'm pretty cool with going out back and sitting on my little deck and watching the dogs sniff around. They're always wishing they could catch one of those squirrels that are up in the pecan tree.

As long as the weather is nice, it's a good place to bring a book and chill.

Home is your respite....that is beautiful.

What are those structures further away?

I am native to the Appalachian Mountains and mountains are my go to place, but anywhere in nature and wilderness, away from civilization will do.
