While surfing the Web I stumbled upon this ARStechnica story about the evolution vs creationism fight in Arizona.

[arstechnica.com]

That led me to the National Center for Science Education, Inc. (NCSE). "NCSE promotes and defends accurate and effective science education, because everyone deserves to engage with the evidence." They specifically defend the science behind evolution & climate change.

Here is their Anti-Evolution webpage: [ncse.com]

This is fascinating. What year is this? 1300?? Next they'll have to fend off the Flat-Earthers! LOL!!

Since you're in Tampa look up Florida Citizens for Science and see the fight in Florida. And if your blood pressure can handle it find a copy of "Going Ape" by Brandon Haught! He i the preident of Fl Citixens for Science and it tell the long sordid history of the fight against ignorance.

Yeah, well, I live in Az. and definitely not proud of the extreme rightest in this government. The politics here is laughable except for being a hindrance to advancing any kind of enlightened society. Douglas was scary when she won her election and is still scary, not a separation of church and state place at all. Pray for us!!!!!

I think calling evolution Darwin’s theory or the Evolution theory is misleading. Opponents of evolution, the creationists, always point this out equating theory with guesswork. It doesn’t make any impression on them when you explain the definition more clearly. You cannot convince people who have closed their minds to evidence and prefer to cling to myths. They are afraid that if they really found that their cherished faith was untrue it would undermine the whole meaning of their lives.

I think the same thing driving this is what drives a lot of insane movements as guns. Money, power and control. Uneducated people are willing to believe anything and fear is a big motivator.

There is no rational or empirical defense of creationism. It is a position of myth, led-by-the-nose true believer fictitious dogma.

Science is the biggest threat to religion it seems. So it makes sense that they are going after science.

Evolution is the most tested theory in science. Fortunately science doesn’t care what you believe it cares about falsifiable evidence. I would have thought that the Kitzmiller v diover trial would have settled this. Yet the creationist seem to keep popping up. The only thing that creationism will do is accelerate the decline of real science in this country. I don’t know how these people can sleep at night after spewing untruths. The Flintstones is not a freaking documentary.

We're already having to fend off the flat-Earthers.

We will fend them off all over the globe ?
