Did you see my comment about how the 4th is celebrated here?
The 4th is the busiest day on this island. We have one of the best firework displays (which I don't care for but the rest is fun) in the state. There will be a big book sale and other events. I will be marching in our parade (for the San Juan Islands National monument - leave-no-trace group). [lopezfireworks.org] The ferries to the island have been booked for weeks and it will be almost like living in the city. This holiday everyone locks their houses and cars. It is a madhouse but fun. The link is a slide show. Today will be sunny and warm (for us - 70's). Only cake for me has to be GF.
@Sheannutt I just returned from marching in the parade. I walked 1 1/2 miles to the start and then back again. I would estimate the marchers/floats covered 1/2 mile. Some of the floats were amazing. I will post some pictures when they come in.
@Sheannutt Finally, I was sent some photos of the parade. The photographer was the BLM director who was in the parade and just shot and walked (I'm in the tan/striped shirt). Our group is the Leave-no-trace group, the first such county designation in the nation. We actually won the Queens level (which is high) but I don't know why because a lot of the floats were much better (we were just louder and more energetic). The one behind us has a heart with the island and represents a local seafood farm. It even had a wooden carved crab on the hood of the tractor. It was a great float. There was even a motorized para-glider flyover during the parade.
Looking at that picture I thought the caption βMake America Fat Againβ would be apt! Ha, Ha, Have a nice holiday.....go eat that cake!!
Hey there....your invited. Lets get fat together...woo hoo!
@BucketlistBob I am already well on my way. Doesnβt need to be special day to eat cake, every day is cake day! ??

Yay! Love my country...?
Let me join the party... Me too !!!!!
