Anyone else here a Naturalist?...or a Dudeist? I find it preferable to identify with either or both of these terms, rather than as an atheist/agnostic/or whatever, since those terms define a person by what they are not in relation to religion, rather than by what they are in their approach to life.

Nature is my Religion.

As far Dudeism being a religious philosophy and lifestyle inspired by the fictional character Jeffrey "The Dude" Lebowski, a pratice of less pratice. I would not fit in as a dudeist, for art as a sculptor has been a pratice and a love for 40 years.

If Love is God, I'm in, as the glue to the Universe.

Dudeism isn't a religious philosophy. It's more an approach to life's absurdities. As to it being inspired by a fictional character...I think you can say that about religions in general.

I was "best buddies" with the puerto rican version of the dude... a communist, he even went to Cuba to cut sugarcane one summer. Poet, writer, pervert, lazy, well read but he got a government job... got unionized... we chased tail as if going out of style... he was cross eyed but closed his eyes when women asked him to take off his dark glasses... friends told me still alive and haven't changed much... we have lots of adventures. Always a Loyal friend. Like he said Not much to believe on until you are hungry. He always have the new information that just came to light!!! ...and the type of semi housebroken buddy during an orgy.

I am both. Ordained Dudeist Priest. You might be right about how those define me.

Me too. I am both nudist and Dudeist. 😉 I made the comment only because the terms atheist and agnostic reminded me of my mother referring to Jews and Protestants as "Non-Catholics" which defined people in terms of what they weren't.

I am already a Dudeist minister... but, Thanks!

The Goverment decides if a group is a religion or not. The US registered Atheism as a religion.

Dudeism seem like a mock Religion a Holly fool (modeled loosely off of Taoism) Taoism is based on nature.

Wikipedia - states it as a religion. The Church of the Latter-Day Dude, along with other ministers from smaller religions (and also non-religious folks), are running into a very interesting legal problem: they can’t officiate a marriage ceremony in certain states. So, lawsuits, like the one that recently popped up.

Aside from their ability to tax and be repressive, being a Dudeist, I don't take governments all that seriously. After all, ours has been at war with a plant for nearly a century 😉

I like you description of naturalist, which for me is more acceptable as well. Appreciate your making that distinction.

I just accept the fact that I am part of Nature, and Nature part of the Universe. There is much joy in the realization of that. Most religious people view Nature as something to control or exploit (i.e. the underlying theme to Melville's "Moby Dick" ) and something that exists apart from themselves. Wiccans never accepted Nature as being evil which is why they were hunted and burned. Nature is also a reminder that all things die and are recycled back into the system, which goes against religious concepts of eternal reward or damnation based on human behavior in relation to the social engineering of a particular time.

Naturalist? No. Dudeist? Maybe, but I like the Eagles, so I’m probably out.

I love this scene!!!!

Try as I might, the tightest description of my identity I can muster is H. sapiens.
