I read somewhere, years ago, that the Haka was something Maori's used to scare the you know what out of their enemies.The eye popping, cheek blowing and tongue hanging out things are meant to make them seem more ferocious and larger than they are. Who wouldn't be intimidated by their ferocity?

@patchoullijulie They do look like some of those idols and statues you see from the Pacific Islands! It would be intimidating, especially on a battlefield back in the days of swords and spears. Even now, it would get the adrenalin pumping and make the enemy, if they could hear it, a little nervous.
