How can science defeat something that doesn't even exist?

I said "no" but I believe science will prevail someday.

Was watching an episode of the hilarious show Rick and Morty. In the episode the devil opens a thrift store with cursed items. Rick “uncurses” them for buyers. On the surface it was entertaining and ludicrous, but under the surface it seemed that demonic possessions were probably bacterial infections or medical problems and that medical science has “cured” some of what people used to believe in the devil for.
