Intention without action is just that, intention.

Well said.

I think that if you believe that you can do something, you’re more likely to succeed at that something.

Isn't the road to hell paved with good intentions?

Yes. I intend for something to happen, then everything backfires.

Intention is important, I think, but not as a standalone idea; only when it spurs action is intention valuable.

Nope. It's up there with 'manifesting' and 'visualisations.'

I do my due diligence and if an outcome depends on chance or someone else's decision, I'll hope for the best but that's all there is for it. Thoughts and attitudes and intentions have no effect on outcomes.

No. Based on personal experience, the connection between intention / effort and outcomes are actually pretty flaky and certainly don't come with guarantees, anyway.

The notion of the "power of intention" is just garden-variety ancient hermeticism ("as above, so below" ). It's been repackaged as The Secret in recent years (book and movie) ... one can think of it as a de-Christianized, new-age version of the prosperity gospel.

@NerdyOkieDude ...different or indifferent?

Absolutely!

No, it’s wishful thinking.

As in The Secret?

...I read that book years ago, but apparently it didn't stick. I am trying to attract a certain energy by being more present and mindful. Just writing that sounds hokey....
