CERN just confirmed that Higgs Bosons decay into down quarks and and anti-down quarks.
In the coming decades this kind of knowledge will translate into technologies that manipulate and control gravity and propel spaceships without discharging mass to do it.
Interesting....more info at link....meme for amusement

Best Meme!!
Thanks for that... and the link.
Link?
maybe! but we need to understand 'dark - stuff' before we can really get going on any place not in our heliosphere.
And although we can 'hold' quarks and anti-matter, it's costly in both resources and man power.
As a confirmed non-scientist because I am too stupid, what does that mean in 5 year old's language
Boom boom mackey pushy pushy fast fast !!;
the Higgs Boson (sometimes referred to as the God Particle) is a fundamental particle of the universe that was predicted to exist and was discovered in recent years by the CERN particle accelerator.
The Higgs-Boson is believed to create a universe wide energy field that imparts gravity to particles that have mass. It's explained as molasses that drags down particles that have mass. Hypothetically, if the Higgs-Boson is actually 2 opposite particles (i.e. positive and negtive) then separating these particles and controlling them could lead to gravity shielding technology that would make spaceships unaffected by gravity hence travel at the speed of light. This is all speculation and hypothetical.
@Lukian The story goes that Nobel Prize-winning physicist Leon Lederman referred to the Higgs as the "Goddamn Particle." The nickname was meant to poke fun at how difficult it was to detect the particle. It took nearly half a century and a multi-billion dollar particle accelerator to do it.
"The Goddamn Particle" was suppose to be the title of Lederman's book that came out in the 1990s and was wildly popular for a book about physics. However, his publishers weren't exactly on board with that phrasing, so the title was changed to "The God Particle."
Still none the wiser guys
@Lukian I was under the impression, from the reading I did when I sat down to try and figure it out, that the Higgs field doesn't supply mass to matter, it applies a 'mass-like' quality to certain subatomic particles which do not possess mass but behave as though they do. The math sort of requires the existence of the Higgs field, which requires the existence of Higgs bosons to exist and/or operate in the manner the math requires. Granted, I was researching well beyond my depth so it's possible I misinterpreted the information.
@Geoffrey51 particle1+particle2=Higgs Boson which makes gravity. Break 1 and 2 apart = no gravity. Spaceship can fly very fast.. zoom zoom.
@Lukian Well, when you put it like that!
As long as the spaceships can travel faster than the speed of light. Otherwise we're pretty much still stuck here...
Wormholes anyone? Lol...
I wish I could understand that.
I have a sneaky feeling most people will read that and just smile.
It would be good to see something of value come out of all the investment into particle colliders.
Like a better mattress or fake orange juice.
Yup
