There is a photo of Nikola Tesla showing in the top right of the home page, which links to a Wikipedia article. Today is Tesla's birthday.

I presume this a new Google Doodle 'subject of the day' type thing being offered on agnostic.com.

I was wondering about that too....

It’s been done before, too. Maybe for Hawking, I don’t remember.

@LimitedLight that’s it!

Died broke & lonely in an cheap hotel room.?

He was bad with money apparently.

@Ellatynemouth didn't help when he was conned by Edison, then betrayed by his backers when they realised he was trying to provide cheap electricity!It destroyed his career.

@Coldo

Yes. I read somewhere that Edison was unscrupulous and devious. I don't know why he's so revered.

@Ellatynemouth The biggest patent & invention stealer of modern times.He promised Teslar an fortune to comeup with an filiment for the lightbulb which lasted.Once Teslar done this, he said,don't believe everything you are told in America. Teslar left his employment and went to work for Westinghouse where he came up with the AC coil.

@Coldo

Edison was a bastard then.

I remember reading about a French man who supposedly took the first moving film in Leeds, Yorkshire. He was about to start a new technology for making films but he disappeared off a train. Some suspect that Edison was behind it.

@Ellatynemouth Some patents he acquired were of people who disappeared!

@Coldo

Edison needs exposing.

@Ellatynemouth Would not be surprised if he done some off that too! Lol ?

It's also Helene Dutreau's birthday - she was the first woman in the world to pilot an aeroplane with passengers 🙂

The irony. Nikola Tesla was a misogynist. Men Rights Activists love him.

@Ellatynemouth was he? Not that I doubt it, most every male in his time period would be by todays standards. Hell most males still are by todays standards lol. I like him better than Edison’s elephant electrocuting ass, just hadnt heard of Tesla’s attitude towards women or how it played out. He seemed like an asexual and/or autistic genius that probably misunderstood women and had very little experience with/time for them if Im guessing, but he died alone, delusionally in love with a pidgeon. So there ya go haha ?‍♂️

@Ellatynemouth I wasn't aware of that - shame, because I'd previously been an admirer. Such a shame when that happens! (Dutreau could have kicked his arse, incidentally - she was also one of the first superstars of women's sport).

@Ellatynemouth So I just googled "Tesla misogyny". Fucking hell, what a total arse.
