I'd take out the 'merely' because without paying attention we wouldnt have come up with maths or poetry etc. I love my beautiful electric prompts to paint, wash myself, and all the other wonderful enjoyments that come with those electric impulses to get off my arse and do something fun and enjoyable.

The discourse of neurosciences is any or all of the sciences, such as neurochemistry and experimental psychology, which deal with the structure or function of the nervous system and brain.

Thought arises from the body but it is different in kind from the physical body.

That, and chemical reactions ... although consciousness and self-awareness are actually emergent properties of those things in a living brain.
