If Trump manages to tear apart the NATO alliance, which he won't, Putin thinks he can have his way with Europe. That's what he uses Trump for, to clear the road so Russia van expand it's empire to what it used to be during the cold war, at least. He's started doing that already.
NATO is the barrier to Russian expansion. Trump is Putin's minion, Germany has kept NATO together, which is Trump attacked Germany today.
The traitorous patterns are obvious to anyone who wants to see, but your Congress has it's own agenda and that's greed. And if anyone has doubts, follow the money and power.
