All I can say is that I personally love smart women. I grew up in family of them, married one, and my daughter is one.
Not really. I tend to think all people pay more attention to wealth and status. Intelligence is somewhere down the list.
Definitely not all people!
@girlwithsmiles I agree. I wish intelligence was more valuable, but that might undermine myself.
I don't think a man has or ever will turn down a beautiful woman only because she wasn't smart enough ?
I think it's an incomplete premise. Some people are intimidated by intelligence, I honestly believe that some men find it unbearable to even think that women even have the ability to be as intelligent as they are... It permeates much of society mostly do to ancient ideas and outdated religions/dogma patriarchal attitudes etc.
I'd like to think that intelligent people seek out other intelligent people in order to be challenged and to have intelligent conversation... If you can't have an intelligent discussion about a topic, you should either want to be more educated about the topic, or you're not interested/unwilling to change your opinion on it... No-one is so smart that they can't benefit from more information.
I love Natalie Portman! Not sure about the quote. Probably. There are a lot of smart people that don't want to be proven wrong so I they like hanging with people that are less smarty than them. Not sure about the gender bias part. Ok, I don't know enough about the topic so I'll just stop rambling.
I think there are definitely men who are intimidated by smart women. I generally refer to them as boys.
not accurate because of the Dunning–Kruger effect.
When both parties are intelligent the above effect is irrelevant; it's main point is about an illusory effect in those less skilled in perspective to those more skilled. If both people are of the same level this effect is irrelevant I would have thought? They equally consider those less skilled to be at their level.
@girlwithsmiles valid but assuming the D-K effect is predominant in men. The statement implies smart men don't like smart women as much. If you apply the effect on the man he will think he's smarter than the woman even if they are equal.
@Lukian why would I presume it's predominant in men?
@girlwithsmiles you don't but it works the other way around as well. What I'm saying is to self evaluate our intelligence is a D-K trap. So the statement above is really hard to assess. I know I went far off left field but the OPs question is not a simple Y-N answer.
@Lukian I stand by my previous statement. As the D-K effect has no gender bias it is not applicable to this statement. This statement has a gender bias that may or may not be true, but as the D-K effect seems to affect both genders equally it is not relevant to Ms. Portman's alleged statement
@girlwithsmiles noted. I get your point. It’s probably true.
Yeah. I’m not sure if that’s a good or bad thing though.
I don't know but what I will say is that you never find many girls that hold intelligent conversations at the club, bar, or party. Not saying that it couldn't happen. People today are first attracted to a person's looks more often than their intellect. I'm personally not very smart but I love an intelligent woman. She can teach me everything she knows.
