Breaking up families is policy not law. That's why, when the policy blew up in his face Trump was able back down.
Policy appears the decision to enforce the law, or not.. Seems BS, to me. If it’s the law - enforce it, or repeal it. Methods of enforcement appear to be the concern here, not policy.
@Casey07 Let’s see.. Illegally entering the nation = law broken. Cannot place youth in adult jail, would brake law. Must separate adults from children while awaiting hearing/ trial/ deportation.
Problem is, it’s a situation that’s been ignored too long, and a significant reason this slime ball became president. R’s wouldn’t touch it, D’s wouldn’t stop it … at least this slimball’s making an effort.
Shouldn’t be a forever thing, after word gets back to the various central american nationals assuming it’s business as usual in the US. And - don’t make the same mistake the Democrat’s did … assuming everyone in favor of curbing illegal immigration is a rabid republican..
As this country turns out more and more people like you this manufactured problem will solve it self.. No one will want to come here.
Dear, nobody wants the illegals...neither do you.
@DUCHESSA ...It is not only legal it is maybe our finest of all American traditions. Anyone who seeks asylum may cross the border and present themselves to an immigration officer and make the request. In the past they would be given a future date for a hearing to determine the validity of their plight. No incarceration. Now that;s a country I want to live in. Read the plaque on the statue of Liberty. Anyone who's not down with that should find another country to live in..
I’ve actually felt, not having looked that deeply into it as most ‘open border’ types are apparently now losing sleep over it … that this must be an allowable law already on the books.. It’s long been said regarding illegal immigration that merely enforcing our existing laws would stop it. Guess Bill & Barack just did it without malice…
Are you implying Trump did /does it with malice?
@DUCHESSA Absolutely - with aforethought. He’s a racist POS using this opportunity to flex his disdain for those not of his ..pallor. But the thing is, it needs done… Too bad your propaganda meme here is meant to incite more than inform..
‘Liberals’ didn’t “cheer” the enactment or light (if any) enforcement of ‘this law.’ I knew them, I know them - and they nearly go mute with ‘shame’ when acknowledging the deportation numbers of Obama alone.
There are two camps: one of bigots & racists; one of those truly concerned over the continued illegal invasion across our southern border and it’s detrimental effects on the nation. Unfortunately, my ‘allies’ on this matter are the former ...and they make me sick..
@Varn I agree, this has to be done.....but with some humanity. The law allows for much deferment to the Attorney General and Sessions decided to enact this separation. We are a better country than this and we would not want our citizens and military to be treated this way in other countries.
@Varn I didn't post the meme to incites but to let people know what's going on now at the border is nothing new...neither is USA the only country doing the same.
Trust me, as a person who speaks Spanish and hears what people say in this language...i am more concerned than most about the negative impact of uncontrolled immigration...specially if this is illegal.
@Darthpug We are better, and have been ‘better’ at allowing continuous ‘legal’ immigration for ..ever, taking in more on an annual basis than any other nation. But some think we’re full, like me. I’ve witnessed the detrimental effects of unchecked immigration on the West Coast - on the ground, in the schools, social services, the environment and employment. Now on the East Coast, I see the effects of dense population and resource depletion...
What continues to aggravate me is this being used as a political football, where ‘the left’ feels it’s ‘their duty’ to enable any & all … and ‘the wrong’ views it as their opportunity to assert their ‘god given superiority.’ Shit, let the R’s do the dirty work here, stop the invasion ..and we take up equally necessary tasks ..like securing health care for an aging nation.
This polarizing post is ugly, and meant to be.. But ignoring a festering national wound is equally ugly
@DUCHESSA You remind me of a former longtime neighbor.. A newly retired HS Spanish teacher, she also heard a lot. To augment her retirement she took a part time job with a local law firm working with ‘immigrants.’ She soon found it was basically looking for any loophole in US laws allowing their clients, illegal aliens, an in.. Hillsboro or Cornelius Oregon … prettymuch sanctuary cities before the term was coined - thanks for your clarification ~
@Darthpug Well, the humanity you want will lead to chaos. All the negative impact you mentioned in your other post is "more than real". I see it as well. Until recently, I was a teacher in NYC.. (yes, dear, I am also a retired HS teacher of Spanish) and my former job gave me the chance to see what other people didn't / don't.
BTW, is your friend American born or, as me, from a Spanish speaking country? This may be of great importance in the way we see this issue.
There is zero law that states that children will be separated from adults entering the country illegally. The Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsiblity Act of 1996 says that a family may be detained till they are brought before an immigration board. It never states anywhere that children are to be separated from the adults.
and why post this in generals and hello's?
Really? Read the law.
The ‘separation’ now occurs because the parents have been placed in custody, as opposed to released. So the separation is the result of the parent having broken the law and remaining in custody in a facility incapable of housing families. Are detractors advocating we lock the children in jails?
No doubt the trump admin assumed word of this would get back to the offending nations and their attempts to penetrate our border would greatly lessen. I assume they also figured the open-border fanatics would go ballistic… I’m with the trump crew on this one … the asshole’s bound to get something right ..and it’s a large reason he attained the votes he did..
Neither Clinton or Obama were blameless just like all the other US presidents.
No, they weren't ...but I never heard them being blasted for their "mistakes".
@DUCHESSA That's because they didn't demonize people in their campaigns. Trump is malicious and dishonest. He called migrants animals then he lied about the law. So he's finding out you get what you give. Kinda like what's happening to you on this post. I prefer we keep it honest and civil on here.
@kensmile4u The fact they did everything "soto voce" (silently) doesn't mean they were saints.
Well, then, the only one to blame is the media....that didn't do the job properly...or may be now the media is doing extra work. Don't you think?
@kensmile4u No, dear, he called " animals" the members of M-S 13...Mara Salvatrucha. I heard very closely what he said. And, indeed, the members of the gangs are the worst.
Nothing is happening to me on this post...darling....but what's known as exchanging of opinions.
I hope you won't regret not realizing what could happen to a country that accepts immigrants w/o finding out about them before accepting them in the land.
@Jolanta Did I say that? NO, don't attempt to put words in my mouth because I
didn't.
I see what's bad about DT...he is not "diplomatic" in his approach to things.... nobody can say he isn't...but he didn't call animals to all immigrants.
Are you aware of the horrors caused by the M-S 13 and other gangs? Why do we Americans must put up with them?
I must have missed something here. What law are you speaking of? Is this something you heard on Info wars or fox news?
Your sarcasm is poor....
The law is the one that separates kids from parents at the border....as stated on the OP.
@DUCHESSAMy apologies to you and Spike Talon. I may have been incorrect and unaware. For this, I stand corrected. I was possibly influenced by the man being a crass, narcissistic, self-centered, dick who has difficulty with the truth
@rogueflyer Somehow I feel your apologies are "kind of a joke".
@DUCHESSA Maybe so but true.
@DUCHESSA I am a socially progressive and fiscally conservative small business owner. I believe in paying for what I buy. Unfortunately, trump and Congress does not. Trump has a very loose relationship with the truth and a history of stiffing other small businesses.
@rogueflyer Then...why to lower yourself by falsely apologizing?
@rogueflyer Do you mean "with the truth as you see it, no? I won't talk about finances / money; those are not my fields.
Some people remind me of those who call others nuts and "different" because they always said all those things everybody knows to be true but fear to acknowledge. Trump is seen in the same way....
