A friend of mine put this on Facebook.
Today's Word for meditation: Job 1:22
In all this, Job did not sin by charging God with wrongdoing.
Well, good grief, he was directly to blame for it - why is speaking the truth a "sin"? I'm sorry, but the way that story goes God and the Devil were playing with Job like a pawn on a chess board, seeing how much misery he could take. And it would have been a sin for Job to complain about it? How unfair is that? I want no part of a God that tortures you for fun and would punish you if you complain!
I have never understood the point of Job.
To try to convince us that the Lord loves complacency; along with "blessed are the meek".
@exilesky
Also he a gambler, an abusive parent and a god who thinks wives and children are possessions that can be replaced as you would replace a lost sock.
Oh I know so many religious people who will just look embarrassed, give up immediately and go away if you say "Book of Job?" ever so sweetly, tail tucked between their legs.
I am sure SO many Christian denominations would love to see that one quietly edited out.
It is unforgivable, unmitigated bullshit, "the Spanish train" gives a more favourable account of the Christian god.
Cool song - first I'd seen it!
When I read your comment about the word of the day, I envisioned a women's tennis match, with all it's grunts and feminine squeaks, as Job's brutally volleyed between the two, saying, "That's ok, I don't mind. Oomph! Easy come. Oomph! Easy go."
Or even "Thank you ma'am may I have another?"
I know what you mean but its a story. Job isn't actually real. Its an allegory as to how it is essential to acknowledge life and the forces that prevail upon you for good or ill. A main tenet is why do the righteous suffer? Well, why not! Its about endurance in the face of adversity. Job gets a happy ending. Same can't be said for some in similar situations in the current age!
Sounds pretty sadistic. Time you unfriended that friend!
