Racism ........I'm wondering
Q. Do you think racism will be less of a problem over time
or will it get worse?
Q. What do you think contributes to racism?

It seems quite obvious that racism has become less of a problem over the years. Look back at the 50's & 60's, things have progressed and we're moving in the right direction. But it is unlikely that it will ever be completely eradicated. This is because we look at the symptoms (color bias) but fail to grasp the underlying cause (Culturalism).
Minor variations in skin pigmentation is such a superficial difference, but is the one thing that is most easily noticed. I've come to the conclusion that skin color is not a problem for any other than the most primitive minded bigots.
Culture, however is a major issue. If we disrespect a person's culture, it is difficult not to disrespect the person. There is no hard written law that says we have to respect and accept every culture. Such a law is unwritable, because it is impossible.
For instance, how can a Western Liberal respect the murderous insanity of Islamic Fundamentalism?
One of the practical benefits of media driven consumer Capitalism, is that it is tightening the web in which we live by controlling desire. Perhaps the inevitability of a One-World Culture is not a bad thing. For this to happen religion, all Religion has first to be spayed.
One aspect that I look at is how nature behaves; how for example species within a species interact ...i.e. red ants vs black; large vs small ... and studies show its primal. Being that we're part of nature (and in spite of having a larger brain) we also operate on a primal level and seems to me that primal part of us is what keeps racism going; I'm not convinced that we'll ever stop it. @Earthling50 You are right, perhaps we will never be able to stop it, but we might be able to contain it. The first avenue is of course education.
Debate on Racisim ... I came across this website where this topic is debated from both sides; I think it provides more lenses to look at the issue.

The more "inter-racial" relationships, and progeny, will help to diminish such stupidity.
Gonna take many decades. And at least a few wars of mass destruction.
knuckle dragging sociopaths think war is a solution to everything... why are there so few ethical intelligent leaders?
@Earthling50 I am not endorsing war. But, that seems how it has always been.
The adage is, "You want things to change? Wait until all the old people die."
Thanks everyone for your thoughtful replies!
Unfortunately I think it will get worse, the world is going to extreme right wing idealogy. Women and nonwhites are being looked down on more than ever. Sad state if affairs.
It will get better. Better education and more fair treatment would end it all but neither of those things are prioritized.
Being more tolerant is simply a choice people are not making in great enough %s to make a difference yet in places. Some places are pretty good at identifying and stomping it out bit it takes a legal system that has no agenda other than the rule of law.
What co tributes to it is lack of consequences for people practicing it and preaching it. Also fear...we are all afraid of what we don't understand but we can all try to learn.
Hate is hate and should be punished more severely than drugs at a minimum
It may get better. The differences made just from my parents generation to mine is a big step. For reference, my mother was 13 years old, living in Memphis, TN, when Dr. King was shot. My parents’ generation didn’t grow up with civil rights, or really even women’s rights for that matter. However, my generation grew up knowing, for the most part, that everyone is equal. Not everyone knows that obviously, but I think most of that is what they are taught at home. My parents were adamant about equality growing up, so naturally my siblings and I have less discriminative tendencies. I can’t say the same for the small town I grew up in. Even though I went to a very mixed school(for the south), we still had seperate proms and prom kings and queens. This was the year 2000 btw. I know, right!?
Overall though, I think we’ve come a long way since hosing and murdering people in the streets and burning houses and establishments down. I know that we still have a good ways to go and I don’t know if we’ll ever truly get there.
Will racism ever go away? I don’t know. I hope it does. But even if it did, I think we would, sadly, still find a way to divide ourselves and destroy each other.
Thanks for your very thoughtful reply.
Answered a phone poll yesterday. I was asked what "race" i am.
The choices included asian (which includes japanese, chinese, indian,...), pacific island (2 types), and all the usual selections.
This is crazy shit. There is only one "race."
Some real stupidity: Categorization by ethnicity. Really grouping by language.
"Hispanics" People who live in countries that have spanish and portuguese as primary languages are of the same spread of colors and origins as people in the US.
Keep in mind: Muslims are not a race. Therefore it is not possible to be "racist" about muslims. But there are laws in canada and the UK now that muslims are a race.

If we continue to dilute, and defund education the problem will continue. If we continue to further isolate ourselves the problem will continue. Also, if evolution will speed up and rid us of self-interest then we will be better off.
