Anyone else feel stuck in the 80s? Music, culture, TV, clothing (!?!), etc. I like some of today's music, but when I have a choice, I'm listening The Police, or Tears For Fears, or Michael Jackson, and on and on... As a child of the 80s, I grew up on Saturday morning cartoons. And I still love them. As well as evening shows. I love Netflix for having Cheers and MacGyver and so many other memory jugglers from my early years. Hands down, the 80s is the best decade.
ahhhh the dead milkmen...
And the Dead Kennedys
And Danzig!
@Firelands1973 YES YES! I have so much 80's music on my itunes. My kids used to play it as it was cool again with the young for a bit. My #3 child got an old camero and I would not let her drive it until she listened to "bitchin camero"
no kept going with house and drum nbass. but I HAVE seen pretenders talking heads orchestral maneuvers in the dark depeche mode simple minds specials selector new order tears for fears and prince in the last 5 years !!
It's like the 80s never stopped!
As I get older I pickup what I like from each decade. I like the 90s for Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day and Soundgarden.
My first concert was Lallapalooza 92. Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Ministry, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Ice T, it was a great first concert. Ministry stole the show. Soundgarden could have been so much better. I did see Chris Cornell later in life though and he was awesome.
I went tto Lollapalooza 12 yrs ago.
Naw. I was a child of the 70's, but I'm not stuck there, either. I try not to get stuck, although nobody is perfect. I don't watch a lot of TV, about the only thing I ever have on is The Weather Channel (I've been a weather enthusiast since I can remember.) I have been watching Star Trek: Discovery. The latest episode blew my mind!! lol
As far as music is concerned, I really like a lot of the stuff that is coming out on modern rock radio. I tend to listen to what's happening at the time, take a few with me as I travel into the future, and end up with a collection that spans decades.
You may hear me listening to something like "Hypnotized" by Fleetwood Mac (early 70s,) or "Mean Streak" by Y&T (early 80s,) or numbers from Aerosmith, Rush, Molly Hatchet, Alice In Chains, Disturbed, Slipknot, Nirvana, Pearl Jam, BTO, Pink Floyd, Beartooth, Korn, Linkin Park, Tool, Deftones, Ded, Trivium, Blue Oyster Cult, Highly Suspect, Thrice, Halestorm . . . . And so many more.
Some things you're not likely to hear me listening to? Led Zeppelin. Lynyrd Skynyrd. The Beatles. Michael Jackson. The Police. These artists were over-rated, over-played, over-marketed, or all of the above.
I try not to get stuck.
I have not made it a point to watch the new Star Trek show. I want to, but not badly enough I guess. I enjoyed Voyager and Deep Space Nine well enough, but Enterprise is so hard to get into. I lost some faith in the executives and their ability to manage the property.
I really like modern rock too. Every year some great new stuff comes out. But the memories I get when Everybody Wants To Rule The World comes on, I get that nostalgia feeling, stronger than even Smells Like Teen Spirit, which blew my 80s pop mind. Ministry and Nine Inch Nails are probably the best ones to pull me out of my 80s funk, though technically they are from the 80s too.
Nope. I was a child of the 60s. We had Bugs Bunny and what is now Classic Rock. During the 80s, I didn't watch a lot of tv and didn't care for a lot of the music. I was dealing with Reaganomics and the advent of religion taking over the republican party.
At this point in my life, I'm not willing to place a "best decade" label on any of them. They all had good and bad.
Fountains of Wayne did that song, Stacy's Mom. They asked when did Van Halen become classic rock. Man, it's so funny to even hear Alice in Chains on the classic rock stations. As a kid, I didn't pay much attention to Reaganomics, though I am very much against it as an adult.
Funny, I go from the 60's to the 90's. I don't support any michael jackson because I believe he was guilty of certain crimes and bought his freedom, some trangrations against children I don't play with regardless of who you are and that goes to a certain notorious director that escaped to france too. Now my Shout to Tears for Fears. I am watching Frazier in Netflix but I had never watched Cheers. Seinfeld, Friends other shows I don't mind watching a re-run. The skinny look of now never been to my liking, neither the one when grown up men dressed as if were wearing their older brother clothes, you know basketball, football and baseball jerseys and long baggy shorts and ball caps. I am a 20th century gentleman looking dude. About the 80's... I remember the shoulder pads and the hair dos but can't have that 29 waist anymore except on my neck I guess. Loved the hippie clothes of the 70's I had a huge afro to match. You are stuck in your comfort zone... nothing wrong with that... enjoy it.
For me, not only the 80s, but the 70s and the 60s too. It is calming, grounding, getting back to simpler, happier times. Nostalgia.
