So explain this to me... We all want to be accepted for who we are, what we believe (or don't believe, in our case...) and how we live our lives... But I'm observing so many of you out there are so entitled that you have the urge to attack anyone.

I rarely have a problem here in the bible-belt and I make sure anyone who's not on the same page as me, knows - they are loved and accepted as long as they return the favor. In order to gain respect you have to show respect first.

So coming back to my first question... What is your motivation to attack everyone? Are you so unhappy? Do you hate the life you're living?

Asking for a friend πŸ˜› naaaahh... I'm actually asking because while I'm trying to work towards peace with everyone/anyone and show them we are not "evil" - I feel like some of y'all are jeopardizing my efforts πŸ˜› RUDE!! πŸ™‚

Maybe you inadvertently provoked someone?

I'm not sure if we're on the same page πŸ™‚ I'm simply asking why some atheists feel entitled to directly attack all believers. Shutting up someone who's mean is one thing but wildly going after people is another thing.

And I'm asking this as an atheist myself πŸ™‚

@AuroraBorealis You're right. I wasn't sure what you were trying to say, but I do now. There are probably some people in this community who have a lot of pent up anger and hostility towards religion and the religious because of experiences they've had growing up. Other than kids occasionally calling me Christ killer and a few people telling me I was destined to burn in Hell, I didn't have that many conflicts growing up. Some people have dealt with much worse. Especially those who were brought up in a deeply religious family. I get why they're angry, but yeah, being hostile is not a good look on anybody.

I don’t attack them at first. I typically try to let them know that I’m not interested in religion as politely as possible. It’s not until I’ve repeated myself 3-4 times that I get less polite and the longer they persist in their efforts to convert me the more laced with venom my words become.

Then this question does not apply to you - because I'm the same way πŸ™‚ I make sure people know I accept them all with who they are and I tell them I expect the same and so far (being a wedding photographer, and having so much involvement with religious ceremonies) nobody has given me crap about it. I make the initial phone consult as clear as possible and I've had people that said they didn't feel comfortable but the phone calls always ended "Yes I totally understand and that is why we should all have mutual understanding and love - I wish you all the best!"

It just bothers me when a population that claims to be so smart and logical acts so primitive. Trying to communicate with a nicer tone or directly screaming/belittling are so different πŸ™‚

@AuroraBorealis Unfortunately people will be people. The sense of entitlement runs deep in the current population. There are of course exceptions to the rule but looking back through history the human race has never been kind nor benevolent.

@PaulD that is true, but thinking that it’s 2018, you’d think we’d grow an inch. Nope- it feels like it’s going worse 😟

Thank you for your response!

@AuroraBorealis You’re welcome and I completely agree. It seems like as the years pass people are more inclined to cry in outrage over the tiniest things and are way over sensitive about everything.

I do not know where you live but this was not the case in NC where we woke up to Dixie on the radio vs the National Anthem as in other states. If we did not go to a local church you were not spoken to even as a neighbor and just the fact we came from a northern state was enough to set us apart. We did not attack anyone we were simply not accepted and they knew nothing about us. I am sure if they knew we were atheists we would have had crosses burning in our front yard.We are glad to be up north again without any wish to even visit any of the bible belt states.

I'm in Texas, and I lived in Turkiye for long years - so one Islamic and one mostly Christian.

I'm not subject to any "extreme"s myself - I had a few friends from the industry (wedding industry) steer clear after I told them I'm an atheist - but that's ok. I can't force anyone to be around me and I wouldn't want that.

But I have a more "friendly/peaceful" approach to everyone. I feel like some non-believer tend to be too aggressive to anyone who is even slightly a believer and I find that unnecessary. Of course I'll defend myself if I ever have to (and I did in the past, a few times) but I'm just curious "Why hate so much when we are the logical ones?"

@AuroraBorealis I have never brought up religion anywhere I have lived but it has always been brought up in every southern state I lived in and always with negative reults. We have been shunned had kkk signs left on lawn and we have never done more than state we were atheists.Neighbors did not speak to us and our children were not allowe to play with the other children. So much for being good christians.

@Marine ho sheeeet I’ve never encountered anything like that here in Dallas/Forth Worth, and I often travel for weddings to smaller towns.. maybe it’s not as horrifying here? I mean I had wedding industry people call me names and cut me off but I don’t need them to make business anyway..

I’m so sorry you had to go thru that 😟 that is the religious extreme side that should not be happening to begin with. Where in NC was this?

I have no desire to be accepted. I just want them to leave me alone and keep their religious crap to themselves.

Well, that statement is totally acceptable πŸ™‚

I'm just curious of those who instead run around and attack people randomly. If you just mind your own business, that is cool and what should be done to begin with πŸ˜‰
