Actual insanity- this is Trump’s base.
Seriously- I haven’t met any Americans yet who admit to/show a liking for Trump. I have lived here for 4 years and not met a single one (based in Chicago).
However, good Americans have to stand up and be counted, surely you cannot give your country away to a minority of nut jobs. Where is the resistance against this racist and vile Christofascist insanity? I am not seeing any consistent fight back in numbers. Just a lot of moaning online or at work.
I don’t understand why.
A year ago, millions of women protested against Trump in the streets. Now there are more women running for office than ever before.
At least 494 women, both Republicans and Democrats, have said they’re running for Congress this year, according to the Center for American Women and Politics. That’s up from 312 women who filed to run for House or Senate in 2016. And after the Texas primary results, 470 potential female candidates are still vying for House and Senate seats.
Running for office is great, but that march did nothing. It was a one time gesture. I am talking about consistent action. Those protests should happen every weekend. The teachers are showing the way with strikes. That’s action.
Last April with two other volunteers, we registered 74 high school students to vote, during four, one-hour lunch hours. As volunteer college mentors, we already had background checks done. The high school kindly set up tables and chairs for us to use.
"Register to vote!" I yelled, dancing around with a big smile. "Right here at these tables! It takes TWO MINUTES! The media says young people won't vote. PROVE them wrong!"
We will do it again in September and October, 2018.
@LiterateHiker see! I was right. Teachers are the best. They see reality and serve the community everyday. Their response is like a social barometer- if the teachers complain or strike, there is something that needs fixing in society at large.
Yeah, those people are pure nuts, just like that crazy sonofabitch Alex Jones that 45 listens to. This whole thing is like bizarro world; or a very bad dream that you can't wake up from. We have got to vote these lunatics out. The crux of the problem is that the followers/supporters of this madman are fighting tooth and nail to preserve their "way of life." They are totally convinced the "leftists", the socialists, the atheists, are out to destroy everything sacred to them and they will do ANYTHING to prevent that. That is where they're coming from. That is what 45 and his ilk have convinced them is transpiring.

@Condor5
Read my post. We registered 74 high school students to vote during four, one-hour lunch hours.
@LiterateHiker sorry, sometimes I look in the fridge and can't find something that's right in front of me. I guess I meant to ask in context of %, but Livia made a good point that the number, per se, isn't as important as the effort. Good job. 74 does seem like a lot.
Love that kind of contribution. Thanks!
