Why doesn't the heat and humidity bother my dog? He's wearing a frickin fur coat!!!
Dogs sweat through their paws and through their mouths, not their skin. Their fur actually insulates them from heat. If they are hot, they seek shade and drink water.
They are in the most danger of overheating in early fall when dog owners think it's OK to suddenly start exercising their dogs heavily, without giving them a chance to cool down.
I see that here in the summertime. People who bring their dogs for a walk (to the store where I work) in the noon day sun, in summer! I try to provide any dog I see panting with a bowl of water. I want to strangle their owners for being so stupid. We had to call the police on a pet owner, just a couple of days ago, who left her dogs (we are currently in a heat wave) in the car while she shopped.
Yep. I guess I was just wishing my dog hated it as much as I do!
