Do you read "fiction" or "non fiction" or maybe "historical fiction"? When I was younger I read mostly fiction. Now I find myself drawn to non fiction and philosophy. BookBub lists thousands of kindle books from 99 cents to $2.99.

Mostly non fiction. As an autodidact, there isn't enough time in life to learn all there is to know. My kids got me the T-Shirt, " so many books, so little time."

Mostly non-fiction, regarding religion and philosophy, unless there is a piece of literature that helps us understand social tendencies or changes we are seeing today.

For years my favorite author was Steven King. Then I discovered Ann Rule true crime paperbacks. She passed away and I haven't found a new true crime author I like so I'll probably go back to King.

I read a little bit of almost everything, but mainly a lot of fiction and science and medical texts.

I read mostly fiction. I need the distraction.

I like reading sciency books... Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Steven Pinker, Brian Greene... That stuff fascinates me.

I am reading mostly biographies of presidents right now...President Carter by Stuart Eizenstat is what I am reading now.

There is no such thing as a truly nonfiction book since all books are written by The Observer and hence biased

Fiction all the way. Escapism it probably is, but I love it....especially a good thriller! Lee Child’s Jack Reacher is my favourite of the moment.

I progressed the same way. The only history I learned was from historical fiction like James Mitchener's Texas or Gary Jenning's Aztec. I think it was because there was meat on the bones of the story. These days I find there is more meat on the bones of philosophical books. My father used to call stories that were easy to digest - pap. I still like to read a pap story every now and then for a break from the heavy stuff. It's usually historical fiction about Shakespeare's England.

@ProudMary Would you believe I have his book Dublin for a long time and haven't read it! Maybe it's because I am a Dubiner.

You both have mentioned some of the best historical fiction books I have enjoyed! The Journeyer by Gary Jennings is one of my favorites. I have started reading more non fiction but they read like fiction...Krakatoa by Simon WInchester was excellent. The Devil in the White City by Erik Lawson was captivating.

@thinktwice I read The Devil In The White City too. I loved the way it wasn't just about the murders. The picture he drew of Chicago as a growing city was wonderful.

@brentan The murders were secondary to the process involved to put on the World's Fair...it is a fascinating read. I also love reading about the royal family history and anything about related to the industrial revolution in England and USA...I read a book about Leeds and the clothing manufacturing but I can't seem to remember what it was. Too many books, too little time! lol

Reality depreses me can only read fiction books unless it's a scientific book

Non fiction, please.. I rarely care for fictional movies, either. Reality is often stranger than fiction, and far more interesting 😉

Yes, I guess as agnostics or atheists we would lean more towards reality.
