I am curious about whether this site, since it is about agnosticism, has a predominantly liberal, left leaning bent?

Yeah it is. I mean it is logical and critical thinking tends to send you in that direction.
It isn't mandatory. I mean some people will still be more conservative because atheism isn't a "political" position.

I know socialism gets a bad rap in the US but unhealthy, uneducated people probably aren't good for an economy in the long game

@Dan1947 Yup. There is a win-win solution for every problem. Some are harder to see than others. Takes all perspectives to have a complete picture.
Would be curious what is myopic about my post?

all predominantly atheist countries are very liberal and socialist (like the US tends to call them).

@Dan1947 nope it's just a correlation (maybe not a causation). It's not an absolute but secular societies tend to be more socially supportive like paid maternity leave, healthcare for all, low or no tuition for higher education, etc... Things that are not usually attributed to conservatism.

There is a small Republican Atheist group you can join. Click on "Discuss" and select "Groups."

Groups are not listed alphabetically. Page down for the Republican Atheist group.

As a lifelong Democrat, I have a strong, community service ethic. You're welcome.

Do some research. A simple Google search revealed:

"Self-identified atheists tend to be aligned with the Democratic Party and with political liberalism. About two-thirds of atheists (69%) identify as Democrats (or lean in that direction), and a majority (56%) call themselves political liberals (compared with just one-in-ten who say they are conservatives). Atheists overwhelmingly favor same-sex marriage (92%) and legal abortion (87%). In addition, three-quarters (74%) say that government aid to the poor does more good than harm."

I'm actually surprised by the number of people here who are for bigger and more invasive government.

It's like they are replacing the Sky Daddy for Government Sugar Daddy/Pimp who will take the money they earn and give them a small allowance and spend the rest of the money on making the Pimp organization bigger....while giving a few gifts here and there to keep people quiet.

There is NOTHING wrong with being socially liberally -- allowing free and consenting adults to do as they please as long as they don't harm others. But, there is also nothing wrong with being fiscally conservative and wanting a smaller, less invasive government and taking responsibility for our own lives instead of sucking at the government's teat.

You're mistaking being in favor of big government and big brother for being in favor of utilizing government as a means of organizing methods in which people take care of one another.
There's a big difference.

@blumandolin Did I say I was in favor of government subsidies to companies or corporate welfare? Because I sure don't remember saying that.

@webbew1 No, I'm not confused at all. My point was that adults should very much take care of themselves and not expect government to do it. For example, that means paying for your own education, food, housing, health care, and retirement instead of the government bleeding us dry on taxes to pay for things that benefit others while leaving the people who earned the money to scrape by.

@blumandolin if it was not related to my comment, there was no need to put it under my comment.

According to Pew research, more than 2/3 of atheists identified with the Democratic party. Obama captured something like 75 percent of those who had no religious affiliation.

Statistically, most everyone here is going to be a left-leaning individual. That said, there are groups for conservative non-believers if you need a safe space (lol, had to) from those with different beliefs.

@Renickulous were it not for the Constitution disallowing it, I would have voted for him a 3rd time. He has some marks on his record, drone strikes, NSA, etc. But he's been the best president of my 3 decades on this planet.

@Renickulous Over Hillary or Trump? He would have won with 60 percent of the vote, a political landslide.

Yes, most non religious people are liberals in my experience. I would be surprised if there were too many right wingers here. If there are any they are keeping their heads down!

@Dan1947 I don’t understand that remark.....?

The last time I had a leaning bent, I fell clean over.
