I just had a passing interaction in the hallway while walking by a stranger at the doctor's office. It was basically small talk like, "How's it going?" and, "How about this weather?". The guy talked about how the weather has finally cooled off since we got some rain. I agreed and was about to say something else when he shouted, "Thank you, Jesus!!!". It came out of left field and took me completely by surprise because he didn't seem at all like the religious type. I was flabbergasted and couldn't think of anything to say in response so I just smiled and walked away. This just a couple of weeks after finding out that my sister does not believe in global warming due to religious reasons... Oh, Texas!!!

I hear god/Jesus get credit all the time for the weather, the day of the week, the time of day, and other assorted, random things. If they're speaking directly to me, I'll just put on my polite smile and hope they don't see me rolling my eyes at them.

I am an RN living in Texas. Two days ago my patient awoke after a procedure praising Jesus....several times! she praised Jesus in that hallelujah voice we have all heard. I just have to ignore it....Want SO badly to say "Jesus had nothin' to do with this".....or perhaps, "And by Jesus, do you mean that Dr. over there who thinks he is God?"

Lol! That's creepy!

I have had all sorts of joint issues over the years and have had 8 surgeries now at last count by various doctors. I know exactly what you are talking about because the majority of my surgeons have had some sort of "God complex" where they just think they can do no wrong...

One of my mom's friends from church just posted on FB:

"We got 5 inches of rain last night! Praise the Lord!!!"

It is a strange and wonderful ( so it likes to think ) place.

Once I was filling in doing some face painting at an event, and the other face painter asked me before the people started coming in if I prayed. I was like… what?? We are at work, what does that have to do with anything? I didn't say that though, I was kind of like uh… no… and she goes well we usually pray before we do these things. And I was like what in the hell? This is a professional organization! So weird.

You did the right thing..just walk away from religious wing nuts.

By the way, it's not just Texas. My siblings were raised abroad, speak other languages, have degrees, professional careers, have always seemed liberal, but two weeks ago I found out that three out of four of them are rabid Trumpites, who call everything I say about Trump "fake news."

The one who isn't a Trumpite has a black daughter-in-law and two biracial grandkids. Could be the reason.

I defriended the Trumpite siblings and cut off all contact.
