I think two band members were Native and two were of Mexican descent.
@Surfpirate Mexicans are Americans.
@BufftonBeotch The US's insistence upon claiming the title America for itself and extending its influence over the rest of the Americas does cause confusion and a great deal of the conflict in the 'New World'. No doubt the Native populations were confused and surprised to learn that they had been 'discovered'. Your post got me thinking so I checked and the group members of Redbone were of mixed native and mexican heritage, the term 'Redbone' is a Cajun term for a person of mixed blood.
