I'm browsing through online dating profiles and see a lot of people who want to make sure they find someone with the same faith. I want to share a story with you that tells me how much faith is bad for a relationship if you put God as number 1. I met this couple through my brother, and, as it is with deeply religious people they became little brainwashed baby making machines. Believe me, (no pun intended) when I say I come from a Catholic family and I understand that the brainwashed baby business is good. What troubled me was near the birth of their third child. See, there was an upcoming mission in Africa scheduled around the same time as the due date. He believed it was "God's will" for him to be in Africa, meaning he not only was going to intentionally miss the birth of his child, but leave the mother with the two other under age 5 children as well.

Unfortunately for my personal desires but fortunately due to circumstances, my ex-wife and I never had a child. However, if she was expecting, and for some twist of fate we were religious, it would take a monumental event to keep me from being there for the birth of my (hypothetical) child.

Is "God's will" for you to be half way around the planet to prevent the people there from getting what they need and give them what they don't, or would your dedication to your family supercede the need to give out Bibles when they should be getting condoms?
