That's probably because most pro-life people take that belief because an egg being fertilized takes a substantial amount to time to go beyond beyond an organized collection of cells with less conscientiousness than a earth worm. It's not a person like religious people want to believe. Also the idea that a woman should be in complete control over her own body, even when it comes to reproduction is not compatible with most religious tenants. That assumes women need to rely on and obey men to tell them when women can and can't have ethical control over their own body. Atheists do not usually fall into either of those schools of thought which, as an Atheist, makes your position appear odd.

There are different ways of being pro-life. Are you pro-life or anti-choice? Are you against the death penalty? Are you against birth control? Do you think a fertilized egg is fully human and has full legal rights as a person? If you are an atheist and don't believe in a soul, why would you think that and on what grounds would you deny women control and choice? Are you logically consistent in your belief or is it just a vague reference for life in all forms? Etc.

I'm pro-Life in a general social sense (I would prefer that abortion not be a social problem... much like most other problems), but I don't think early-term elective abortion should be made illegal. And abortion for medical/rape should certainly not be criminalized, IMO.

Why do you think it should be, or at least, could you clarify your stance? Why does such a thing, even if it might be immoral (also a fair question), cross the line of necessitating government intervention?

Not believing in god is not a moral stance with real life consequences. Denying women the right over their own bodies is.
