Now I can't wait to go home and look at this again, but with my daughter.

Great article! Thanks for sharing. I do a lot of inner searching on guilt and shame. Part of healing.
I'm sharing a great Ted talk on shame here, if anyone is interested 🙂

“...and ideally use symbolic language, which means using indirect metaphors, metrics, and simplifications of your experience”
Ancient methods were way ahead of us on this one. Meditation has employed this for centuries. Labeling is a fundamental tool of mindfulness.”

A friend or two may have sent me this when I was really struggling with situational depression after my divorce. I took a screen shot of the summary and referenced it for weeks. It's been a while since I've actively employed at least two of them. Thank you so much for the reminder!

Gratitude is the right attitude - it's a hell of a platitude!

Seriously, I think it helps me a lot. But what about the poor souls who genuinely have nothing to be grateful for? I think these are the people who turn to drink and/or drugs to try to fill an empty hole in their souls. I think they are looked on as collateral damage in an unfair world.

I realise that. My point is about those who never found anything and quit searching.

I think you need to read my post again. I never spoke about every sad person. I don't think the problem many have with not finding things to be grateful for is down to a lack of interpretation skills. It's down to a lack of things to be grateful for. As for your theory of neurology, I think it has more to do with a lack of meaning in life than chemical imbalance.
