I'm in a rut. Several few things in life are going wrong at once, and it's going to take a good deal of time and to climb out. Thus, not very happy days. In fact very unhappy. My point here isn't to vent, though. My point is when I'm at my lowest points in life, one of the most therapeutic things I've found to help navigate it is the absolute knowledge that there is NOT a god. That we, self aware beings serving as neurons in the mind of the universe, are borderline miracles in the cosmic scheme of things. It reminds me how special we all are. You can peer out in light years in every direction and you will not find anything close to us, and conceivably much much much farther. As the great Carl Sagan once said, "be grateful every day for the brief but magnificent opportunity that life provides". Have a great day heathens.

That's a great attitude to have. I'm stuck right now myself and trying to turn quite a few things around. Reminding myself of what's good has been my biggest help to stay on track and keep moving forward.

I'm sorry things are going badly for you right now, and hope you are finding reasons to move forward in spite of the unhappiness. Your take on life, the universe, etc. seems very positive, so perhaps you draw from that positivity, which is great. I would get no comfort from the idea of a decision-making entity, like the god(s) described in books, especially when life is at its worst. Thinking that my misfortune was by the design of a powerful being would cause me to despair and give up. The idea that bad times are due to random happenstance (or my own poor decisions) is more comforting than the thought that it's personal and deliberate.

Ditto friend.
Have had many days like this over my life a lot of them caused by being told I was guilty of sin???
I am now a much happier unbeliever but also believe that s**t happens and we just have to deal with it. I still have days when I feel overwhelmingly low for no reason whatsoever! However medication and therapy sometimes can help.
Hope you get on the upside soon. ??

Yes, rather than praying to an imaginary deity outside ourselves for clues toward how to get out of our ruts and troubles, it's good to remind ourselves that we often have what we need within ourselves and the wisdom of our fellow humans to take the steps necessary for our happiness.

You too-hope things work out.

Interesting perspective. Thanks. Been having a bit of a rough go myself. I will take your advice and change the way I view it.

Articulate and honest. With the small exception of not asserting an absolute knowledge, (I would state absolutely no convincing evidence to support any positive god claim) I agree with your perspective. I hope you quickly ascend from your rut.

That is well thought out. I need to remember that.
