Good for you. When you do a job estimate, you need to know right then and there what it's worth to you and if you bid a job, that's what you are obligated for. If you low ball yourself, you'll have a lesson for the next time but it doesn't apply to this time.

I have experienced the same thing with a gardener / landscaper. I appreciate the profession as an honorable trade but come on, if you have reasonable smarts you will probably not be a gardener. Upping the price mid way through the job is simply a dumb ass thinking it is a clever form of negotiating. You will clearly never use that guy again and, in the future, make sure gardeners know the price they provide is comprehensive to complete the job.

Yep he is an asshole. I am having gardener drama right now too. Mine doesn't want to work but he doesn't want me to hire somebody else so he keeps saying he's going to do it… And then doesn't I've been waiting all freaking summer for some shit to get done. It's hard to find good ones.

I have different workers I employ from time to time and I pay according to the difficulties of the task. They look at me funny when I pay them less for an easier job. I never hire any of them when my kids are around. I do this to err on the side of caution.
