Ever look around the room when someone asks to "say a few words" and notice that you're the only one NOT bowing your head? Things get weird for me when someone looks up and there I am, head forward and eyes open, looking around the room, not being pious.
Anyone ever wink when that happens? I'm not brave enough, but I would LOVE to see what happens.
Went with members of my teachers union to the state Congress this summer to support our governor in a vote for renewing a tax. As we were led in prayer and pledge notices that was not the only one seated looking bored. Turned out I found another atheist and we had much to discuss on the four hour bus ride home.
Not I. I don't even stand up, and read a Kindle book to keep from being bored. Why should I cater to wing nuts?
I don’t socialize with them, but at work the nut jobs surround me. Once I had neck strain from my badly set up keyboard and desk. This colleague came and put a hand on my neck and asked Jesus to heal me!!! I froze. It was totally bizarre.
@Livia Probably that part wouldn't bother me because it's already been proven that the placebo affect works, and the person is giving me positive energy. If I believe it, my body believes it.
I will try this next opportunity. It doesnt come up much anymore. Very similar is teaching my kids how to say the pledge without the "..under God" part and what to do/say if confronted.
If confronted, just ignore them, or say that that line is illegal; separation between church and state is the law.
