So.. I'm sitting in Panera Bread this morning and a black man with his white wife sit at the table next to me. I didn't hear most of the conversation but I did catch this bit from the wife:
"I don't think fags should be able to get married because it's just not right. "
I looked right at her and laughed. I said, "Excuse me.. But you do know that there are still people today saying "I don't think interracial couples should be allowed to get married because it's just not right?"
She said, "Those people are ignorant."
I said, "Exactly.. Now don't you think you should take a good hard look at what you just said?"
CRICKETS
I have an acquaintance who is very conservative. She's white and her husband is black. I've seen Facebook posts by her that were anti gay marriage and wanted so badly to comment that her marriage wouldn't have been legal a few years ago!
Our daughters are friends so I refrained from saying anything.
Yeah some people are as thick as two bricks! If you go to the South, lots are still racial like that. It's good that you chimed in! Kudos!
OT I'd kill for a broccoli soup with a bread bowl! Extra bagetts! Closest Panera is 80 miles away.
Lol that's exactly what I ate!
@Rosiebanana If you were a lot closer, I'd let you buy me a bread bowl!
@TheGreatShadow I totally would cuz we're like food soul mates apparently lol
I have a black friend who I knew from work but one night went out for a drink with and told me he only dates white women because he can't stand "his own people". I was shocked. We argued a bit for a while but I couldn't get through to him at all. He had all these ridiculous reasons why he thinks white people (especially Jewish people) are superior. I would have never guessed this about him at work - It was a totally different guy!
and he assumed I was Jewish... LOL. Raised Methodist and Athiest since 12 or 13
I have a 3 cousins who are black, well half I guess. Anyways, one is very conservative and posts what I would consider anti-black things on Facebook. I feel badly for him because I can't imagine what he must feel....self loathing?
You did a very noble thing.
Thank you, I'm glad it wasn't an angry conversation!
@Rosiebanana True. They could have kicked your ass! ☺
Killeen, yes, I visited Ft Hood about 6 years back to see daughter just before she was shipped to Iraq.
Oh yeah I did my time in Iraq too. Hope she had a less eventful tour than I did!
@Rosiebanana She was there when we were packing up but she still got shelled some. Most of her problems were not with the enemy but with a superior sgt.
@starwatcher-al oh I totally get that! Had a sgt like that myself. All my best to her and you!
good for you, and maybe she will reexamine her views.
I really hope so
