It depends very much on what you want out of the relationship. I've had a few when I was travelling a lot, but that was mainly because it was nice to have bonk buddies scattered around the world. From that point of view they were good, but I think it would be very unlikely to develop a long distance relationship into anything really meaningful.

For starters... don't expect them to be monogamous.

For me it wasn't an obstacle to starting a relationship but I had the freedom to eliminate it as a factor so I did early on. We ended up married.

It's hard to develop a relationship with someone who lives across the country.
