I don't see a group here devoted to the separation of church and state, the violation of which is one of my regular peeves. How is it that we seem to be heading to a theocracy?
Hi, Crow, and welcome to the website!
By the way, this website has a bit of a learning curve.
For members who are open to dating, certain thumbnails and profiles have a heart symbol on them with a percentage. This identifies which members are open to dating, and the percent shows approximately how compatible others are with them.
You gain website points by answering all the profile questions and writing a bio, which also earns website points, and helps other members get to know you.
Commenting on posts and writing your own posts earns more points. At level two you can private message people, and at level eight you get an agnostic T-shirt.
If you want to date, the website uses profile algorithms to find member matches, so the more details one includes, the better the match.
Many people prefer to see a written profile talking about interests, hobbies, and backgrounds that can be quickly perused to find others with similar interests..
In case you didn't know yet, to find members near you, click on the "Browse" button at the top of the page, then on "Members," and enter your preferred search parameters.
Click on the "Discuss" button, then "Nearby" to find members near you also.
Or click on the "About" button at the top left of the page to find links to FAQ or the website tutorial.
Points are now being given to level 3+ members who chat. You can see chat rooms on the group main page or at [agnostic.com].
this is not, in general, a forum to discuss atheist things. it's a forum for atheists and agnostics to talk about regular everyday things without having to worry about someone bringing up god in the middle of it, I think, based on what I've seen of it so far.
hear hear!
Well, I think it’s a place where you can categorize your topic. You can label your post as “politics” “fun and humor” etc. something for every atheist or agnostic.
definitely, and I wasn't suggesting someone couldn't discuss the coming theocracy, I just meant it's not a primary focus.
Surely support of separation of church and state is a given amongst atheists? I think it’s a qualifying part of being an atheist.
We are on the brink of a Christofacist autocracy because of voter apathy, sexism against a female candidate, the American voting system, racism, low levels of education in the USA (perhaps the lowest literacy and numeracy rates of any developed nation), gerrymandering, the love of celebrity and voter apathy. Not forgetting America’s love of all things Jesus.
Plato said something akin to “A society gets the government it deserves”. And there you are - your answer.
I'd say you hit the nail squarely, Livia. the theocrats have been engineering this for a few decades no, relying on apathy and even engendering it to slide under the radar until they had the mechanisms in place. gerrymandering is a big one, as is the divisiveness of modern politics, that is no accident at all.
Exactly
I wish Frank Zappa were still alive, he predicted this happening. He feared a "Fascist Theocracy."
he was a very brave & - unlike John Lennon - lucky man.
