What do you think about the burqa? I see it as male domination that subjects women to humiliation.
It teaches women to be ashamed of who they are fundamentally. If men have a problem with lust, don't push it off onto women. Better to do what some religious books suggest and pluck out your own eye.
Not really sure why religion is so hung up on sex. Just one more reason I think it is ridiculous and am glad to have no part in any of the nonsense.
And regarding #ShariaLaw
In it's true form, it was practiced for not more than 50 years. The closest thing to ShariaLaw is observed in Saudia Arabia and that is not a true form as well. There is no place for a Royal family in sharia law. The leader is nominated for life and he nominates another leader when he is near his death. It is a kind of dictatorship in it's true form.
The real sharia law exists in paper and it should stay there. It is an ancient law, not compatible at all with modern world. It is a law lacking in so many aspects. It does not take into account so many aspects of the modern world.
It is an oppressive law, as an educated aware atheist and someone who was unfortunately born into a muslim society but fortunate enough to not be born among snake charmers, I am completely against sharia law and it should be resisted.
beheading, chopping hands, stoning etc etc!!!! Without realizing why people are doing what they are doing. Fuck that in it's every form.
Thank you for opening up and showing a voice of reason.
Let me speak on this subject. Women are forced in islamic societies since childhood to wear a burqa. They see grown up women while growing up observing the practice. Even if they claim they are not forced to wear burqa, they are! They are conditioned since childhood. It is oppressive!
Plus men in these societies where women observe burqa, my goodness! They have this superiority complex and they see women as objects of sexual pleasure and baby making machines.
I completely agree, it is oppressive and should be banned by the people who have the power to do so. At least they will save the next generation. I do completely support French policy makers in that aspect.
Why is someone conditioned to an extent that they are hiding their entire body and face in a black bag!
I am atheist coming from a society like this. I do object to this practice. I don't want women or anybody to feel oppressed.
Although it's another topic that I myself am oppressed!!!
Thank you for being so brave.
I think it's fine in their private homes and in their specific places that they practice their brainwashing.
However, it should be illegal in public everywhere else.
As long as it is their choice. Not forced.
Yup. I teach an English class of mostly immigrants and I asked the class of low beginners to come up with a topic. A woman from Iran that put up her hand was wearing a scarf, and she said let's discuss my headscarf. I thought this is nuts. I just blew it in a big way, but couldn't go back.
Quite the opposite happened. The young woman beside her is also Iranian with no scarf. We had a very nice discussion about it and came to the conclusion that they can wear whatever they want, not anyone should tell any what to wear or not wear. No voices were raised and there was no anger. We all agreed in broken English. This class had men and women from Iran, Syria, China, Japan, Chile and Mexico.
About 10 or 12 people
I was new and make up the conversational topics myself now.
I think the reality that it is always forced. It is a form of brain washing that women are inferior to men and are simply a temptation on two legs.
I am confused a bit as so many women I have seen lately talking about it just love wearing it and don't seem subjugated at all I have always thought in the past that it was men who forced them to, but seems that being covered up out in the street isnt a bad ideal for many women. I was thinking about sir Lancelots quest to find out what women really wanted and the answer was 'choice'
