There are hiking trails all over the Columbia Gorge, but I favor a particular two mile hill climb (it's a gorge) with a series of fabulous views. When I first started this post heart attack health campaign, I had to stop several times to rest, but yesterday I left my twenty something companions in the dust, powered my way to the top and had to wait for them. When they finally made it, I was asked if I was training to be a Sherpa. It was hugely satisfying.
Yes, I love hiking in the Columbia Gorge. I prefer the less popular and less crowded trails myself. Too many people can ruin the serenity of nature.
Agreed. I stay away from Dog Mountain and anything near Multnomah Falls,
"We didn't see anyone else all day," women in my small hiking group marvel. One mark of a great hike is solitude and quiet.
We hear birds singing, shrill marmot warning calls, owls hooting and grouse booming.
We hike steep trails for spectacular views, leaving crowds on lower, easier trails.
