My Gen Z kids might start liking some Gen X music (I like some of their playlists) I'm so digging this time with them, teenagers rule! Still haven't gotten them to listen to any post punk willingly but they now tolerate my fav Boards of Canada album, lol.
Any Gen X folks or any generation, what's your favourite genre?
I do not have a favorite genre, I don't even have to be able to discern the words, if ther are any, if it has a beat and gets my attention, I will give it a listen. Rap is hard for me as it kind of reminds me of preaching, i have heard some I liked.
I love the late 90's/early 00's pop-punk (Blink 182, The Offspring, Good Charlotte, New Found Glory) and the following emo-punk/pop (My Chemical Romance, Jimmy Eat World, All American Rejects, Fall Out Boy, Panic! At the Disco). It's like a guilty pleasure. Of course, this is from a girl so stuck in the 90's that I legit have Hootie and Blowfish, the Best of the Counting Crows, several Barenaked Ladies CDs, The Chronic and All Eyes on Me still in regular rotation in my car.
If you can get them to listen to The Police, though... One of post punks greatest contributions to music.
@CoastRiderBill is anybody alive in here?
@CoastRiderBill Synchronicity is probably their better known music, but I will always love Outlandos d'Amour.
I used to do vocals for a death metal band, and have always loved it's finely articulated anger and brutality. Lots of fast stuff - punk, thrash, ska, psychobilly, gabber, hardcore techno, jungle, Warp Records stuff like Squarepusher and Aphex Twin. A lot of my musical taste is a: appalling and b: reeking of ADHD.
I choose not to inflict it upon my children, or unsuspecting members of the public.
My playlist covers Mozart to Motorhead excluding. all but 2 or 3 modern country songs and nearly all rap. My kids. I knew I had succeeded as a father when my daughter sang along with the radio as Hotel California, Paint It Black, Don't Fear the Reaper, Revolution, and Take It On the Run played and she knew every word to all of them.
Mine is Punk/thrash/metal but I also dig rock, blues, hip hop, and other types as long as it is good, well written, and relevant.
Hard to say-I listen to most of them on streaming music [accuradio.com] where I can pick my own genres.
I do like Issac Delgado a lot, whose music could be classified Cuban salsa.
I also love K-pop, Thai pop, bluegrass, jazz, rock, pop, classical piano, Caribbean, etc.
Here's an Issace Delgado song I love:
Issac Delgado-.O Estas Loca.
