Would you prefer it if there WAS a Creator of some sort? If yes, why? And if no, why?
Now that I understand the logical untenability of such a thing, no. It's like wishing for Willie Wonka and his chocolate factory; it's childish and self-infantalizing. But yeah, there was a time when I thought it was Really Important, mostly because of operant conditioning in how I was raised in the faith.
No because it would be an incredible fuck up & would still have the power to create more fucked up things.
yes, it would then explain why there are so many assholes who believe it
No. I would not like it if there was one creator who has made both the beauty and ugliness in our world, and that we have no power to preserve the beauty and correct the ugliness and unfairness.
I like to feel we can have faith in humanity to do the best with what was naturally created, by understanding nature and studying the social and physical sciences to help ourselves, rather than being disappointed in a creator who torments us by ignoring prayers, creating disasters, and making us wait for our wishes to come true, with no action of our own.
I'm glad we are in control - but I wish those with the most control would act for the betterment of our world. Unfortunately, they are the ones who profess belief in a higher power, alleviating them from sacrificing their wealth for the betterment of society.
What would he/she/it create a planet of greedy people always waring over some inane religious issue? Oh, wait we already have that scenario. No creator: The mental anguish that silliness spreads is so full of mental illness. When archeologist from far in the future uncover our remains they are going to echo WTF was this civilization doped up on.
I’d prefer if there was an afterlife and that my son was waiting there for me. I live in reality, though...
There is a creator, it happens not to be a spiritual being with a magic wand. Everything we are, have been and have yet to become is based on science and our own actions.
Of course there's a creator..WE are. We are our own gods.
Besides, physics indicates that we are participating in creating our own universes/reality.
“Consciousness is fundamental, and matter is derived from consciousness." – Max Planck, theoretical physicist who originated quantum theory, 1918 Nobel Prize in Physics
Quote:
“A fundamental conclusion of the new physics also acknowledges that the observer creates the reality. As observers, we are personally involved with the creation of our own reality. Physicists are being forced to admit that the universe is a “mental” construction.
Pioneering physicist Sir James Jeans wrote: “The stream of knowledge is heading toward a non-mechanical reality; the universe begins to look more like a great thought than like a great machine. Mind no longer appears to be an accidental intruder into the realm of matter, we ought rather hail it as the creator and governor of the realm of matter.
Get over it, and accept the inarguable conclusion. The universe is immaterial-mental and spiritual.” – R.C. Henry, Professor of Physics and Astronomy at Johns Hopkins University , “The Mental Universe”
No. It's magical, superstitious, asinine thinking to believe some invisible being waved a magic wand and created the universe.
Presto! Chango! Zot!
As if the Bible was faxed down to Earth by an invisible being.
I so want there to be an all knowing, all loving creator but sadly that's far from the truth. Life would've been easy for everyone I guess. That's what I want to be true but it's not true. The versions of creators that most people acquaint through out their life time are imaginations of some really influential people of the past and present. Lack of evidence keeps us, and should keep us aware of reality.
What is your definition of Creator? The only event that I can possibly see having a creator is the origin of the universe or multiverse or whatever it turns out to be. I don't have a preference if the origin is natural or intelligent.
